Don
Don't recall if the price went up or not.The Expo isn't being run by anyone at LOR, though, thus I doubt anyone here will have the answers. Might want to contact the Christmas Expo people and ask them what the cost will be of the LOR Class, though. The company that runs it doesn't seem to have the price listed on the site. bisquit476
Yep it went up, from zero to enter the building to $160 whether you want the classes or not.
plasmadrive
My wife and I were going to go this year.. but I have a rule for conventions.. NEVER pay to walk the floor.. Pay for classes or seminars perhaps.. but NEVER to walk the floor.. Well that frees up my summer unless they have passes that vendors give out to customers.. Then I will go. Don
Uh,Yep it went up, from zero to enter the building to $160 whether you want the classes or not. This page says:"... and the doors are open to the public Thursday through Saturday."I'm not sure if the intent is to charge people just to get in the door. Would kind of defeat the purpose (and I suspect would adversely affect their ability to get vendors to attend.)

The DOORS might be open (per your link) but according to the link I posted it's not free. The doors open to the public at my local movie theater at 12pm every day but I still pay my ticket price to actually get in.I'm just going to put it out there and risk the haters (after 6 years I'm sort of over those people anyway)... go here and make your decision based upon track record and price. Uncle Al
$7 seems like a fair price for admission. I can not think of any other trade show that does not charge something for admission. I went to the 2011 expo and I am still mulling over 2013. The $160 fee is for the classes. It is like a private break-out session for specific decoration topics. I attended the classes in 2011 and learned a lot! Edited January 19, 2013 by Uncle Al
plasmadrive
$7 won't turn me away.. but the $160 would. More the principle then the money.. BTW, I have gone to many professional trade shows and paid zero to get in the door.. I just won't pay to attent a show where they want me to spend money with vendors... But, $7 is reasonable since the show is pretty small in the scheme of trade shows.. They do need to make a buck.
rob352
Thanks so much for all the responses i just got a email from the expo and i was told there was no $7 fee to enter only the $160 fee:(
Don
Thanks so much for all the responses i just got a email from the expo and i was told there was no $7 fee to enter only the $160 fee:(Odd. Here is the reply I got.Dear Don: Thank you for your inquiry regarding the 2013 Christmas Expo! We will offer 'exhibit hall only' admission at the Expo for $8/person/day and the ticket can be purchased right at the expo on the day you plan to attend. plasmadrive
does this ever happen on the west coast or is it stationary in TN? I just looked for air fare and for two it is a bit over $2K.
Ryan Johnson
So it seems the website page is updated with the new $8 price point as well. But be aware: $8 (per day, not for the whole event) will get you to walk the vendor hall. $160 will get you the classes. There's been A LOT of talk over the years of PLUS/Expo moving around but it's never gone beyond the "talking" stage- always been in that general area. As someone associated with a similar event I completely understand this: you put your show where you have previous/proven success, know the people and places involved, and can plan your budgeting accordingly. Where on the west coast area you located?
plasmadrive
Ryan,I get what you are saying for sure.. proven success is important.. but then again, you can't prove a success without it being first tried.. But, that is a $$ thing..I am in Sacramento, CA. I am thinking a conference somewhere around a real major airport location on the west coast perhaps... For this year, I think I would rather spend the $3k on play things.. like controllers and lights..Craig
Ryan Johnson
LOL- I hear you on the "save your money for lights and controllers"! It's always a challenge to determine where our holiday hobby dollars go. Check out the forums (here and Planet Christmas) and you might see some things pop up in your area (or a lot closer to it) or better yet get something going in your area and grow it the way you want! That's what we did in Texas to be sure and now we host the Academy every year with people coming from waaaay outside Texas in many cases. If we could do it you (and others out on the west coast) can do it as well!Best of luck, and if you decide you want to come on down and meet us, Southwest runs from Sacramento to Houston for A LOT less than $1000 (like $171 to $240!).
