caniac
Currently I use an Insignia 100W receiver to drive four "outdoor" speakers and for the most part they do a decent job BUT I am thinking of upgrading the sound this year, maybe even incorporate a subwoofer with all the other stuff. The question is, has anyone else done anything wild with regards to professional sound?
Aaron Maue
Yes. I use the professionally-developed and -installed radios in my guests' cars that they tune to my FM broadcast. Sorry. Couldn't resist. Edited January 3, 2013 by Aaron Maue
caniac
Yes. I use the professionally-developed and -installed radios in my guests' cars. Sorry. Couldn't resist.that only works if your guest are driving fully loaded Lexus's, BMW's, and Mercede's. Doesn't work well for the tractor pulling a hay ride. Aaron Maue
There you go... Now you want the professional stuff to sound good too. Sheesh. In all seriousness, it's too cold around here for me to worry about it. For the 1 night a year I have sound outside, I use my Dewalt work site radio. scubado
100W receiver definately not enough! I use two receivers with 200W each and wish I had more! I fried my first receiver during Halloween with thunder pumping through it.
Crazydave
You need to consider speakers too and their location. I had two 15" combo speakers pumping 100 watts each...and that was plenty loud.
scubado
I have two sets of speakers, the ones mounted on the house are a heck of a lot louder than the ones out in the yard closer to the cars. The house helps reflect sound and unfortunately gets in the house to. I plan on making new cabinets that are more solid and hopefully not vibrate the house. With the new opportunities at work, I may actually buy an EDM this year.
Ivan Beaver
It all depends on what you are trying to do with the sound.I work in the pro sound industry as a designer ( Danley Sound Labs) and have access to anything at any volume level I want. However my "sound setup" for Christmas (Halloween is much different ) is a FM transmitter and a small 2 way and a 70watt amp that I run at around 20-30 watts. The speaker is on my porch and I run it just loud enough (around 70dBA at the street) so people walking by or getting out of their cars can hear it. I try to to disturb the neighbors-the flashing lights are enough For me it is not a concert or loud type of sound. But rather for the sound to add enough to the lights so they don't look "stupid". As a syncronized show will-if you can't hear the music. But everybody has their own ideas of what is "right" for their show. So "to each his own" is my moto. WilliamS
Seeing all these Bluetooth players on the market all of a sudden makes me wonder what kind of distance you can get with a bluetooth dongle and one of those protable setups?
k6ccc
Bluetooth is very short range (20 - 30 feet) and in my opinion not suitable for something that you want to work every day without any user intervention.
caniac
Problem with bluetooth is that I haven't seen anything "outdoor" rated. am also entertaining adding additional speakers and putting them closer to the road. Ideally I would love to add a sub and really make the ground shake but don't think the neighbors would like that.
