The Take Down

12 controllers unplugged and put away, one needs to get a triac changed out, 20 mini trees unplugged and put away, 6-7 sleeve arches taken down and put away, 8 fire sticks taken apart and put away, 300 feet of airline cable coiled up and put away, 7 locks thawed out and put away, the couch is calling me to have a nap, then I will continue on, woke up to 2 inches of fresh snow this morning, what a pita, after I snow blowed for an hour (which the neighbors appreciated) at 7am, the dreaded take down has begun. Happy New Year

Yep, last night at the end of the last show of the year, I started taking stuff apart. Got all the extension cords, 8 mini trees, 7 CTBs, 4 CCP controllers, 16 strings from the spiral down and packed up for storage. I have to wait til everything dries out now since we woke up to rain this morning.

Now the rough part. I thought I had all of the tent pegs out of the firesticks, as I picked the first one up, the 1 1/4 inch PVC snapped at the bottom and the stick centered me right on the top of the head. I now have a small LED shaped puncture wound on the old melon. Not bad, just a little sore this morning.

That being said, everybody be safe while doing tear-down, especially in the snowy and icy regions and using ladders.

I hope all had a great lighting season. Now it's on to 2013, finalizing the setup, buying the needed pixels and controllers and creating a few more props.

Happy New Year all.

Ron

Don, how do you manage to get your stuff down? Aren't you covered in snow and ice?

No way I'm getting most of my stuff down for awhile. It's all frozen to the ground and under a few inches of snow. I'll get my controllers in, but that's about it.

Her name is Gladys, in spite of what everyone thinks I am not the boss in this family, my wife is, it is with her motivation that gives me the strength to take down the lights, snow or no snow, and like I tell all my friends(I wear the pants in the family when my wife isn't around ) this line was taken from a comedy show years ago, so this is how I manage to take the lights down in the snow, if you need help I can send her your way for a few days. keep in mind she doesn't help, she just glares at you. LOL

Ha. Sounds like the kind of help I get. Luckily, it's just the kind I need. :)

BTW... Your line reminds me of a bit from the Bob and Tom morning show. Enjoy...

45 minutes start to finish here. Everything light wise is hung on PVC frames. Those frames are mounted on the house. Im not allowed anyting in the lawn so no minis to store. The best part is a total of 10 wires becuase it all pixel based.

Turned the lights off tonight and pulled the controllers. Gonna try to pull some cords that are on the ground tonight before it decides to rain again. I hope i don't attract too much attention pulling pounds of copper off my lawn. As I live on a swing shift schedule, working in the middle of the night is no biggie... maybe I'll have most of the cords pulled by 2am.

They lights turned off 1/2 hour ago, and now they will just sit until all the snow and ice melts. Nothing I can do until then.

I pulled mine down last wenesday, took 4 people 8 hours to get most of it Down and packed away. The only thing left is the lights on the 2nd story of the house and the base ring for the mega tree because of the snow

I hate this time of year, came home from work.... No outside lights dancing, no people watching, and since the city turned off a few street lights around my house, it's downright dark outside

And the most requested song for 2012...... A song I sequenced in 1 hour at work a few weeks ago, it figures

Spent 6 hours on New Years Day and got about half of my lights pulled down. Nearly broke my back walking up and down the stairs/hill in my front yard, down to the basement and back again. I am going to take my time over the next few days taking down the remaining net lights and house lights. Should have everything packed away by Saturday night.

I extended our lighting season until this weekend due to the snow and cold. I may just leave the lights on until May the way it's looking...

This is the first year in five that I'm not in a hurry to get them down.
