Cabbage
Had an exciting morning as I was pulling out of the garage the ethernet cable that connects my main controller to my secondary controller on the other side of the garage wraped around my truck tire (must have frozen onto it over the night) and pulled really hard on the 2nd Ethernet port of the main controller. I tried doing some tests, and the results were sporadic, so I am going to hope the show works right tonight. The Ethernet port appears to be still attached to the solder points, but broke loose from the small line of hot glue (?) that binds all the ports to the board. If it doesn't work, can I use the telephone cable port to connect the 2nd controller? Is there a way to repair this part?
dknahoolewa
just use the other port and always make it the last controller in the line.yes the phone jack will work.

Guest wbottomley
Sounds like a SOL situation.

If this is the case, then you may need to move controllers around. (Assuming, again, that this is the only controller that was damaged.)What dknahoolewa is suggesting is that you physically swap controllers around. The damaged controller needs to be moved to the *last* spot in the daisy chain. Since nothing else connects to it, everything is okay. Take the controller that was originally at the end of the daisy chain and make it the first controller. You will either need to change the addresses of the controllers, or change the sequences to match the new locations of the channels. Guest wbottomley
Or... reroute the data cable.

So the weird thing is with the Hardware Utility I can turn on All Lights on a single controller at a time and they all work. When I try to do a chase using the Hardware Utility on the 2nd controller, a couple channels from the main controller (damaged one) light up, and a couple lights on the one connected don't light up. Seems to be some crossover that I didn't think was possible as you can only control one controller at a time with the Hardware Utility.
LORisAwesome
Just to clarify, this is not really an ethernet port. It is a RJ45 jack and communication protocol is RS485, not ethernet. If you try to plug this into an ethernet network, it won't work and will probably damage your equipment.Jerry
