In Bill's memory, please dim your lights Sunday December 23

As some of you may remember, this summer we lost a valuable member of our community, Bill Vanderslice, also known by many as Water Bill. Bill contributed a tremendous amount of time, energy and passion to the Christmas lighting community from creating a wonderful display with amazing water fountains, to helping anyone who had questions, concerns or needed help in solving problems they encountered. Bill loved explaining to us “newbie’s” how to work through a problem and helped give us the confidence to move forward and expand our displays. Bill was a founding member of the Florida Planet Christmas where he worked in helping as many people as possible get involved with Christmas displays.

His passing will forever leave the lighting community with less shining lights for Christmas.

In Bill’s memory this Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 8:00 pm we are asking you to dim your lights for two minutes….then crank the lights and music back up to full power as Bill would not want them dimmed for long.

Thank you

Well that's two great guys named Bill that we lost this past year, Bill Vanderslice and Bill Foley will both be missed.

I have actually created an 80 channel sequence for this memorial and will be to honor BOTH Bill Foley and Bill Vanderslice.

It has no props defined, just controllers 1 through 5 and channels fade in, hold at 50% and fade out at the end in all non defined channel buttons.,

I also edited a version of Taps that has commentary at the beginning and edited it down as it goes into the TAPS rendition. This was "TAPS From the Spirit" and I will play it on Dec, 23, 2012 in Memory of these two fallen decorators,

Anyone that would like to have the S3 sequence along with the modified MP3 file, you can download them from here: http://sdrv.ms/T6ezzz

You can download in a zip file or seperately.

The sequence is 2 minutes long.

So sad, many, myself included, loved his display.

Patti Nasrallah Many have responded to the email that they will be participating in the tribute to Bill. Many have added voice overs as intros to that portion of their show. And some are following with "Amazing Grace". It is a wonderful way to remember Bill.

TAPS? Don' t you think that might be a little over the top, considering, these guys are christmas light decorators, not fallen war heroes?

Not at all. I have been to many funerals where the person had NEVER served in the Armed Forces, yet TAPS were played at their funeral, It is a "funeral dirge" after all.

I also removed all reference to any military in the commentary prior to the TAPS being played, so it is very befitting.

So no I don't believe, or even think it's "a little over the top" at all.

I feel it is just as appropriate for a "fallen decorator" or anyone else for a tribute to those we have lost.

I heard from Bill's wife and daughter. They were very touched by everyone honoring their husband and father. It really meant a lot to them. Thank you all!

I was outside during the moment of silence and explained to folks that this is a very close group and this was a loss to many of us and this is our way of honoring Bill. It was touching how many people offered their sympathy and condolences.
