Some folks take the fun out of Christmas

I asked a cop about doing that once, and was told that as long as the right colors were in the permitted locations i.e. White up front, amber on the sides, and red in the rear. It would be no different than normal car lights.

Where you get in trouble is using unpermitted colors on civilian rigs, like green, blue, purple and red (when it is in the wrong location).

I'm not endorsing it, not approving it just saying that's what I was told. Just look at some of the Semi's out there, its gotta be legal somewhere.

There weird down there in Kanas. Some friends of mine during storm chasing season last year got pulled over for having amber led hazard lights. State patrol said the LEDs are a hazard to other drivers because they distract them. Then why do cops have them?

So bah humbug to that cop! I deck out my car sometimes too, but not as extreme as this guys pickup, which I think looks great. Those dadburn new HID white and LED headlights are the worst, they blind you even on their DIM setting they are 5 times brighter than my bright lights are. They are blinding and they should be illegal!

I got pulled over by a Florida State Trooper, I was driving a 1987 Pontiac Firebird, had one of those "Night Rider" style lights mounted under my rear spoiler {White lights under red lenses}, only came on with the brake lights or indicated which way I was turning when the turn signal or hazard flashers were on. Didn't get a ticket, but was given the reason I could not have them is because they were animated! So I said, then you better start ticketing all the old COUGARS that have the animated turn signals on the rear, as well as the new Mustangs and those vehicles with the flashing thrid brake light too!

I had to disconnect the Night Rider lights, but as soon as he was gone, I just reconnected them back to their connector. Even told this "rookie" that I lived next door to a State Trooper and an Orange County Sheriff, and had passed many police cars, sheriffs and Orlando Police and none had ever pulled me over for it. Some cops are just plain stupid.

BTW: I never got cited or pulled over because I had a RED LIGHTED BOW on the front of my car or multi-colored Christmas lights mounted to my luggage rack and been doing this for quite some time too.

Why the fine? If it's a big deal, just tell him he has x days to remove them before he is ticketed. If they really want to be nice about it, make x a larger number, like 20. Problem solved.

On the other hand - I didn't see anything on that truck which would "raise awareness for a coat drive". It bugs me when people claim charity causes to justify behavior.

I have red and white on my luggage rack on my van. Plugs into my van when driving, plugs into the display in my driveway. Headlights have RGBW glow as I choose when in the dark. Usually have the green on to match the plate lights on the rear.
