I have not purchased my LOR yet, but how many strobes can you plug into one channel of LOR? Also the curtain strobes how do you plug them in? I mean does each one have a seperate cord or are they using the same cord.

I use 30 strobes per channel and for connecting them togeather, I simply cut the male ends off the existing cords which are already mighty long, about 6ft and patched them togeather, simple and FREE!

I have all 72 of my strobe lights on one channel. I use the American DJ Flashrope. I have six of them this year and couldn't be happier. They all blink completely random and I don't have to do any modifications to string them together. A few triple taps and they were set up. Very nice effect. They do need a small load to fire using LOR, but I got them on sale and they are rated for outdoor use. Again, my strobes are not all flashing at the same time but if they all flash randomly, I know that 72 strobes will work on one channel without any problem.

Will I have seen the American DJ Flash Ropes in real life, and compared to Darryls strobes they are nothing. I think Darryls strobes use alot more electricity then these, to me they seem like LEDs blinking on and off, LOL. I just think 72 of Darryl's strobes are much different. However, according to Jeff, 80 strobes would only be 4amps? Meaning that would be fine on LOR.

I tried more strobes this year without much luck. I had about 40 on one channel and every night this one controller would freeze up and leave all the strobes on. removed 30 of the strobes and everything was fine. Thought it was weird that this would cause the board to freeze up.

What could be happening is a common problem with inductive loads on triac boards. The LOR boards use special triacs that help them handle inductive loads (loads such as motors and strobe lights... ) but they do really designed to handle such things... One thing that can happen with an inductive load and a triac is that once you turn it on, it will not turn off.

This may have been what was happening with your strobes.

Ok. How could I avoid this happenning? Would adding a larger load help?

A funny thing about when the strobes would turn on I was hearing a weird noise comming from the basement, it was my breakers buzzing when my strobes were on.

I have the used ones that Darryl sold this fall. i'm using a CTB-08 board that is over 3 years old now I think.

Hi,

Thanks for the additional information. The early CTB-08 is not great controlling things other than incandescent light and that may have been contributing to the problem. Finally this year we will be giving out new chips for those controllers. These chips will improve the performance with things like LEDS and it will pretty much eliminate the problems we have seen with those early controllers loosing their Unit IDs.

Also it is looking like the chips will need to be upgraded for LOR II software.
