Zac_Cutt Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Hi,I finally got my display running after a bunch of complications. Everything works normally except random channels 1 or 2 stick on at times during the songs. probably 8 out of 10 controllers are doing this. Normally the same channels on each one though. My question, could this have to do with firmware? Most of my controllers are on 4.32 but I got some replacement controllers just recently and they are still on 3.0. Would this matter?Otherwise I would assume a cat5 cable; somewhere.ThanksZac
Zac_Cutt Posted December 8, 2012 Author Posted December 8, 2012 Read this, I re worded the above for clarity and I am not allowed to edit!I finally got my display running after a bunch of complications. Everything works normally except random channels stick on at times during the songs. Sometimes everything is normal and then other times 1 or 2 channels on each controller stick on. However these channels act normally when they get signal to turn on. Probably 8 out of 10 controllers are doing this. Normally the same channels on each one though.
Max-Paul Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Bad Cat5 cable can do this. So can a crossover cable that was installed by mistake. Be sure all cables are patch. Also if you have almost pulled a RJ-45 socket out and have a pin making a breaking contact. This is also true of those little wires that make contact with the plug. If those wires are bent down some and not making a good contact with the contacts on the RJ-45 plug. And lastly I recommend that the comm cables (Cat5) are not laying in a tight bundle with the power cables.
Zac_Cutt Posted December 8, 2012 Author Posted December 8, 2012 Ok, yeah just a matter of replacing CAT5 cables I suppose. But where to start is the real problem. Would the problem lie in a cable or socket right before the glitches? Or is it possible that everything would be glitchy even if the problem was near the end of the chain?Trying to narrow this impossible problem down. The channels that are sticking seem to be the same ones over and over, but like I said at times everything works perfect. Very intermittent.ThanksZac
George Simmons Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Theoretically, the bad cable could be anywhere, but my gut tells me to start with the one delivering the signal to the first controller that acts up, and if that's not the bad one, start working your way back to the PC until you find the culprit.Might be a bit late to help you out, but Monoprice.com has cable testers for about ten bucks that no decorator's tool box should be without.Good luck!
Zac_Cutt Posted December 8, 2012 Author Posted December 8, 2012 Well I have determined that the first controller in line has issues as well so I may just end up running a cable to test each...Zac
Guest Don Gillespie Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I just noticed tonight I am having the same problem arch #3 is is giving me grief on sleeve #3 I will trouble shoot in the morning but it is very irritating.
mattera68 Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I have been having the same issues. It is the same channels that do it but like you said it is very intermittent, every time I see it my head starts to boil. I havent tried switching out cables, I do have a tester and will let you know if I find anything.
