AR HillBilly Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I just received my first LOR and now the fun starts. I'm looking for some tips on getting everything up and running. I want to mount the Controller out back and by my power pole, if I does this I will need 18 - 100 ft extension cords at $16 apiece. I've hard that you can build your own cords out of SPT 1 or SPT 2 lamp wire, but is this safe if it get wet or snow? I have already built 10 mini trees and really just trying the make them Blink and Dance for the kids this year. Any tips or tricks will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
mcmpros Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 What type of controller did you get? If your running the show from a computer since the controller will also need ethernet running to it you might think about having your controller centralized. The SP wire will work great I haven't had any issues with them covered in snow. Good Luck
AR HillBilly Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Bought the CTB16PC and LOR Wireless Link kit. Yes will be running the show from a CPU.
AR HillBilly Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Have you ran the SP wire over a 100 ft? I will have about 500 incens light on each tree? Did you use SPT 1 or 2? Thanks for your response.
Crazydave Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 So your lights are going to 100' away from controller? Why not move your controller?
craigecooper Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 500 incan ? mini's ? ... that's about 2 amps ... easily handled by a 100 ft run of either spt1 or 2. but totally agree with Crazydave.
Bud Bray Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 (edited) Yes, easier running two 100' extensions to power source and shorter ones from box to display but then cable from computer to box is also to be considered. That's what i did (sixteen 100' cords out of budget) Edited December 6, 2012 by Bud Bray
AR HillBilly Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Yes, 500 Minis. I was thinking of moving the controller closer, but I don't have a power source close, so I would have to use a heavier extension cords and didn't know how good that would work. Thanks
scubado Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 One extension cord for power is cheaper than 16 100' extension cords. Stick a post in the ground and mount the controller to it.
De Trommelslager Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 As stated... Depending on your total load, you might be able to get by with one extension cord; just use a mutli-outlet on the end of the extension cord to plug in both banks. And be sure that the feed for the controller in in a GFCI outlet or the circuit is on a GFCI breaker.
dgrant Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Someone else here in AR, cool! There's two over here that do LOR. Someone else in Siloam Springs too. 1
AR HillBilly Posted December 7, 2012 Author Posted December 7, 2012 I have family in Kirby, AR and I know that I have seen a big show in the Van Buren area. It was a couple of years ago since I have been up there for Christmas.
