danbeveridge Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 i don't know if anyone can help me with this, but here goes-- one channel of my lights when faded(and only faded)goes crazy. It is my largest channel, but consist of leds. I've tried troubleshooting a little, but it seems it could be about anything. The only thing i have done differently is turn all lights on before this started; and although i think this must be what caused it, i have no idea why. i am secretly hoping that tomorrow it will just go away, but i'm also hoping to win the lottery. thanks for your help and i hope your lights are going great this year!
Guest wbottomley Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Plug a set of incandescent lights into the led's and then try it.
scubado Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Plug a set of incandescent lights into the led's and then try it.If this helps correct the issue, do a search on snubbers, lots of info and how to's.
Max-Paul Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Or f you dont want to go thru all of the trouble for this year. Get one of those plug in glade evergreen thingys and plug it into the end of the LED strings. Provided the above test works.Hey this is like reading click and clack in the news paper. Each of us taking a turn with a wee bit o knowledge.
danbeveridge Posted December 4, 2012 Author Posted December 4, 2012 thanks for all your help guys i am so thankful for the help and i certainly hope i can do the same in the future. And yes! it worked. i couldn't find enough info(or i guess simplistic enuff for my simple head)for the snubbers, but i guess if this works i can figure more out on that by next year. From what i do understand and to troubleshoot better next time--could my fading be too sharp from low to high intensity and would lengt?hening the span from low to high and back cause less likelihood of the disturbance? honestly, if this works all the time, i don't want to overthink it, just wondering for future. Thanks so much. thanks again for your willingness to help and God bless. merry Christmas!
Mwhite7097 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 (edited) The LEDs draw so little power that it is hard for them to fade slowly. You will notice the flicker more on slow fades than fast fades. Snubbers, or in your case, Glade Plug Ins (which I use also) create just enough power draw for the LEDs to fade to 0% without much flicker. Also, some LEDs, such as the Martha Stewart brand from Home Depot will not fade at all. Try to buy full wave rectified LEDs. Edited December 4, 2012 by Mwhite7097
