v2.9.4 LORTray/Monitor Hangs

I've been running my Christmas pre-show with just 1 .las sequence (1 min in length) and the show will hang stopping the whole show (running on Windows XP). The other apps work fine including Windows Media Player that continues to play.

I have had no problems during my Halloween show - ran for weeks with no problems on the same system. The only change has been some windows updates (yes, I know I should have waited to apply them). Any idea what could be causing the hang? Is this caused by the system or maybe the sequence?

A few other tray items include:

Indexing (now turned off), McAfee AV Plus, SoundMax driver panel, nVidia driver panel, Windows firewall

I'm using the USB485B adapter with the FTDI driver 2.2.4.0 (from the device manager).

My only recourse has been to reboot. Killing the process and restarting does not work. Logging off/on does not help. A full reboot is needed.

There was an issue a couple years ago where the USB adapter was locking things up and required a reboot. The official solution was a USB cable from LOR with a ferrite bead filter on the cable. But several folks picked up one at Radio Shack that seemed to clear up the issue. Since yours worked for Halloween, this is probably not your problem. But if your cable does have a ferrite bead hanging on it, this might be worth a try.

Since I just successfully ran for over a month for Halloween I don't believe it is the cable. Because of a reconfigure for my layout due to a controller going down, I had a few assisgned/unused channels that may have been a problem. I also had at least 1 conflict. These have been corrected and I'll watch it for a few days to see what happens.

I’m not sure what ferrite filter people were purchasing from Radio Shack. But here are two of them that came up in a search.

You might also want to disable all the power saving features on the PC. I think that had a similar effect.

Thanks for the links. I'll pick 1 up and see.

I got home yesterday and it was hung up again. I run this off a PC and not a laptop, no power saving enabled. I'll see if I can remove a few other things tonight.

Thankfully I don't have the full show running, my "regulars" won't show up until this weekend probably.

Does your screen saver come on during show playback. If so, turn it off.

Screen saver and all power save functions are disabled (and have been). Still randomly hangs.

Tonight I'm going to set up a Windows scheduled task to kill the processes after the end of the show each night. I'll create a second task to start it back up. At least I won't have to push the restart button each night.

Has your problem been corrected? I have the same problem here, Each day before I run the show I need to reboot. Looking to correct the same problem another way.

EDIT: No sooner did I write this I saw Bob's post about a memory leak. Will try downloading the bug fix

No, I can't say the problem has been corrected. I ended up creating 2 .bat files that I scheduled to "stop" the app by killing the PID and another that loaded the program. Initially this was not successful but I have run 2 days successfully with no hang.

As for the post about a memory leak, that appears to be for LOR S3 v3.9.0. I am running with LOR S2 v2.9.4.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ugh! This is happening to me too! Same version. I have used LOR for 4 years and never once had it lock up. Now every night it locks up sometimes 1 hour in to the show sometimes longer but basically every show.

Im not sure what to do. I was thinking about rolling back to an older version ? Anyone else have solutions?

My opinion is that it is not the LOR software but a recent Windows XP update that causes a conflict with the LOR software. I have been rebooting my computer every other day. Judging for our light contest is tonight...just rebooted. :(
