Upgrading Controllers to 40 amps

Recommended Posts

I have (5) LOR1602W's and I have upgraded them to 40 amps each. I just purchased (3) CTB16PC controllers and they are listed as 30 amps - Can I upgrade these controllers to 40 amps each?

Thanks,

Bill

I dont believe the PC controllers can go more than 30 amps.

edit: reading over the thread and I mean to say 30 amps not 40

The hardware can handle 40 amps, but if you mount them in the plastic
enclosure, they can't get the heat out fast enough to run at that load.
If you used a larger enclosure that was made out of metal, and mounted
it directly to the enclosure, you might be OK. I'm running all my PC controllers
at 20 amps. (single feed)

That makes sense now regarding the enclosurer - All of the LOR1602's are big metal enclosurers.

Thanks for the info

Check out the following thread:

They only tested at 30Amps because of the plastic enclosure.
There is a reply from Dan in that thread talking about the board design.

I do agree, however that if you want to run at 40 Amps you should
use the CTB-16D. I have 5 of the 16D's and 4 of the 16PC's.
I use the 16D's to run the C9's on the house. I really like the 16PC
because of the nice design with the enclosure. I pretty sure that
all of my future controllers will be the PC version.
