Just got done cutting 18-2 spt-2 wire into 15' cords and the vampire plugs are too small! Do they make different sizes, our should I have used 20awg?

Yes. SPT1 and SPT2 vamp plugs. Sounds like you have SPT1.

I believe the wires itself is the same between the two, just the jacket is thicker on the SPT2.

Edit: George beat me to the answer.

I believe sp2 wire is 16 gauge and sp1 wire is 18 gauge. (of course sp2 had more insulation).

Spt-1 & 2 both come in a verity of sizes. spt-1 has a smaller jacket.

I am not a hands on expert. But I read alot, and from my readings. SPT-1 and SPT-2, the difference is the thickness of the jacket. Has nothing to do with the wire gage, 16 vs 18 ga.

And you can get SPT1 or SPT2 in either gauge so always read the specs rather than assuming.
