redsea300
Ok so I hand out candy canes to people who come by and see my display. It is a great way to break the ice and say hi. Then you can answer questions and make friends and get feedback. I did not do a show last year due to an injury. The previous year i went thru 1500 candy canes and I wasn't always out there. I was wondering if anyone had a good source to buy them. Thanks Don C. Edited October 29, 2012 by redsea300

JeffF
I am not sure what price you are thinking about but I found them for about 18 cents a piece plus shipping. I also have a code to get 10% off. this is price by the case. If interested let me know. Now this is the full sized ones. If you want the mini ones then they are about 7 cents a piece. I will be giving the little mint balls soft ones. I bout about 30 pounds of them.I'd love to get in on some mini ones. That's what we hand out here and it seems to help people feel better about parking in our driveway.
redsea300
I like to give out full size usually. Never really gave a thought to the mini's or others. Waht do you think people would prefer.I found these but know about quality. They are .08 cents eachhttp://www.dollartree.com/Peppermint-Flavored-Candy-Canes-12-ct-Boxes/p304625/index.pro
LightsinMaine
Buy them for .10/box in January. Look at the best buy dates and most candy canes are good for 2 years (especially when stored in a cool dry place)

Orville
I give out the mini's too. Many times I've found them at the Dollar Tree at 100/box,for $1.00 so that's only $0.01¢ each! Unfortunately they don't always have them either. But now is the time to start looking.

rfallatt
how many do you give out in a season and do you consider your visitors a lot or little . do you collect donations ?
redsea300
I go out and say hi and introduce myself to my visitors. I give candy canes to anyone who wants them. I handed out 1500 2 years ago and i didn't meet probably half the people. We do all this work of programing and setup and my enjoyment for me comes from seeing the kids with smiles on their faces while they are singing and dancing.Wew also collect donations of food and money for Second Harvest Food Bank. They are a local food bank that helps out the counties around us.
JeffF
So for the people who give out candy canes, who do you give them out?We have people pull into our driveway because the road doesn't have a good spot to pull off and watch so the kiddos will usually grab the box of candycanes and offer them up to the people in the driveway. It's an ice breaker and lets them know we really don't mind them in the driveway. And after I mentioned this thread to my wife she reminded me that we get them from the Dollar Tree for like $2 a box and she thinks they have 50 or 100 in each box... I'm soo old and stupid now...
zman
I gave out about 3500 candy canes last year, and bought 4000 for 2012. I buy them in bulk from Spangler, the link was provided above. Great product and you wont find them cheaper. At some point everyone will switch to the mini's if you start to give out candy canes at all. I dont care how cheap you find the large ones.It will add up quicklyI tend to give them to the kids, and young adults, but adults become kids that time of year too.I eat a lot of the ones that manage to get broken, and it turns out my Golden Retrievers LOVE peppermint and provide a lot of entertainment for the guests munching on candy cane pieces.Something to think about is trash. You will find those wrappers all over the place. you may want to think about leaving a garbage can out for guests to put the wrappers in. Although, they will still find a way to get all over the ground. As a special hand out to those who have returned or for whatever reason I deem, is the rubber braclets. I have my website on one with Merry Christmas.
Orville
I am giving free magnets and the soft mint balls. They are like candy canes but melt in your mouth mint balls.Where do you get the "mint balls", may want to get some of those for both myself and the visitors. At least no Dollar Tree in my area sells anything for over $1.00 no matter what it is, although sometimes they do have a few things for $0.50¢ Edited October 30, 2012 by Orville
Dave Batzdorf
I give the canes to who ever wants one. Its a great chance to talk to the visitors and for them to ask their questions - how, where and why! Thanks for the Spangler website. Will definitely go that route next year. Most of the time we try and catch the end of season sale. But with that url we wont have to. Now i just have to remember where i put that darn url!
