griswald Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 This is my first year using LOR. Earlier in the year I purchased two controllers and a bunch of lights, etc wih the intent of putting up a Christmas display. I then spent the next few months diligently learning everything I could about LOR and lighting in general (these forums have been a HUGE help).Anyway, about 6 weeks ago, my wife "suggested" I put up a Halloween display, so I started frantically working on a small 16 channel setup which includes a homemade 7 channel singing face. The problem is I keep coming up with new ideas, but simply don't have the time to implement them now. I'm also starting to second guess my sequencing on the Christmas songs I've already completed. I'm not sure if I'm excited, nervous, starting to panic, or a combination of all three.....
dusty72 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 +1 on all the above I would probably go as far as saying I'm getting " Wired" for this sorry, bad pun...
Frybread Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 One of the intelligent (OLD Timers) had posted before. Set a date that you have your design complete by, make it early in the year. and build to it. Do not change it. If you start to change it. You will keep trying to change it and get nothing done. I set my date in March and ordered my materials. I have come up with 100 other ideas since then but I am sticking to my original plan. I have written down many of the other ideas and started to organize them for future years. Sounds simple enough.. but it is hard to stick to.
PaulXmas Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Stick with what you have planned for this year.Any new ideas save for next year.
griswald Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 Very good advice from everyone; I especially like the tip on setting a deadline date and sticking to the plan. I think that's part of what got me all wound up about my Halloween display. I had no plan and since it was "last minute" (at least for a newb), I was just winging it. No matter how structured my future plans may be, I think I will always struggle with seeing all the really cool stuff you folks do on these pages and wanting it......all of it.
