Guest guest Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 CTB16D or the CTB16PC, which should I get. I already have 2 16D's from last season. I would love to add 4 more controllers this year. If I choose the PC controllers I can get 4 and bring my total count to 96 channels, which would be great. If I go with the 16D I can probably only get 2 controllers.I really want four more controllers to do what I would like, but am nervous about mixing the controllers. I asked Dan and he said the 16D is easier to use and set up, but the 16PC is more cost effective. Is anyone mixing the two and how is it working out for you. I want to make an informed decision.
Guest guest Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 I purchased 3 16PC to go with my 16D. It looks like the only thing you lose with the 16PC is the ability to turn the knob that assigns the controller number. You will have to decide for yourself if that knob is worth the expense. From what I have seen of the PC, it is not as wide as the 16D, so if space is a factor in your design, or your box, then it would assist you.

Guest guest Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 I went with all 16D’s but this is due to I have high load channels and I wanted the ability to pull more power and not have to worry about splitting channels as much. I also have some non-seasonal plans for my LOR controllers where I want them to run in stand alone mode (16PC –Doesn’t have). I have six (6) of these and I have a feeling I will go with PC boards from here on out for growth and move a few of my low load channels to them. But it is display specific on which boards you should go with, but mostly personal preference. For some advice to others debating this, someone gave the grate recommendation to me and I will pass it along, have at less one (1) 16D so it can run the show on your 16PC boards. It can help if you if something happens to the computer or just need a few more amps.
Guest guest Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I have 8 CTB-16D (Deluxe) boards, 2 CTB-16K boards, and 3 CTB-16PC (only 2 are assembled) along with 48 DIO channels with SSRs. I ran shows with the first 10 boards last year, and have tested the 2 16PC boards and the DIO over the last two days with great success. I really like the compact design of the PC boards, the connection to the other boards is seamless. Set the board number with the Hardware utility, plug them into the other boards, and you're in business.Using the controller network the way I do, always connected to a computer, I would have purchased all CTB-16PC had they been available when I started last year. I intend to get 3 more of the kits to complete my system. They are a very good buy, if you don't require stand alone mode or 40amp capacity.Good luck with your decision, I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you buy from LOR! Great company, very nice people and fantastic customer service! I'm very proud to be one of those customers...jeff
Guest guest Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Great thread. I am glad I saw this. I too had the same question about going with the PC board over the 16D model.
Guest guest Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I appreciate everyone's input so far. It sounds like the PC boards might be the way to go.
