Industrial scrap to fantastic arch

So, what do you all think of my leaping arch. It is 4'10" high and 9'8" across. I outfitted it with 800 white LED's and 8 channels. I love it because it is held together with setscrews and breaks down into 4-4 foot sections. It's also light enough I can easily move it with one hand. Can you believe I found this thing in a dumpster at work. It was part of an old sales display, too bad I missed the rest of it. The great thing is I paid about $5 for it in scrap weight. Talk about a find. Only bad part is if I want more than one arch I'm gonna need a few days to fabricate them. I also won't go to the extremes on design that was done on this item.

I should also say to those who saw my post about my future mega tree, I am changing my design. I will no longer be attempting to use the pipe with the 1/2" side walls, you're right, I couldn't lift that thing safely. I will instead be using another pipe from my metal supply that has 1/4" sidewalls. I am still putting a sleeve into a sub-grade concrete footing. I will also, as was suggested put the controller just a few feet off the ground instead of at the top. 15 dollar store cords are cheaper than a dropped controller or broken arm. Lastly I will secure it with 1/4" cable guy wires, procured with all the necessary hardware for $5 at a garage sale this weekend. I figure my total out of pocket for this tree will be only about $40.

Very nice. Big too. I found this earlier this year and bought 2: http://store.winterlandinc.com/5-Leaping-Arch-Frame--No-lights-_p_6761.html Going to use these for my Rainbow Pixels arches. Quite a bit more than what you paid and quite a bit smaller, but its another option for the future.

http://www.christmaslightshow.com/Spt2-Wire-Plugs-and-Sockets-for-Christmas-outdoor-decorations.html Check this out for extension cords. 250' for about $40. HD and Lowes sells black like this, same length for about $70. One roll and a couple of bags of vampire plugs and you can make 250' of extension cords.

Yep a dropped controller or a broken arm would not be good for the Holidays. Kudos for changing your plan.

Happy Lighting,

Ron

Seems I forgot the hyphen. I meant "15 cords that cost only $1 from the dollar store."

If a lot of people like these frames, I just might have to go into production making something similar. I've already started making custom wire frames, what's one more thing...

It really is a nice size, the outside radius is just inches short of 16 feet, perfect for marking it off into 8 channels.
