testraub
A few days ago we had very high winds and rain here in the DC Metro area. I had put up my spiral tree for testing and maintenance. I had the tree on a couple of saw horses to make the wrapping of the lights a bit easier. Well, low an behold, the wind got it and blew it off the saw horses and bent my main pipe . I'm in the process of strightening the pipe and rebuilding the tree. It's not too bad, but I am almost having to start from scratch. I figured since I got to do it anyway, I'd design a new topper out of 1/4" steel plate. PITA to cut with a jigsaw .Tom Straub Edited September 19, 2012 by testraub

EARLE W. TALLEY
Tom, it's easier if you make it out of 1/4" aluminum plate, that's what I used.Earle
testraub
Well with 34 guy lines and 18 more for spiral stringers theres a LOT of down ward pull ( well over 300 lbs). Thought about aluminum, but me, I like to over engineer BTW finished cutting out the new topper, only took 3 days. It's in paint now Tom Straub

Max-Paul
I am still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that it was on saw horses. What the bleep is a MT doing on top of saw horses? We need a smiley that has reached up and is scratching the top of his head. I could use that a lot around here. Tom, glad to see your out banging around and sawing out a new topper. Arm doing better I hope.
