I use both. Haven't figured out how to create my talking tree in Visualizer. Plus the animation never lags behind.

Mini trees and Mega tree are easier to see in visualizer. I'm still learning to use visualizer.

If I already had a lot of time invested in the Animator and didn't want to spend the time with re-doing everything in the Visualizer, I would stick with it.

If I were starting from scratch, I'd probably use the Viz.

If I were brand new to S3 this season, I would say 'What's an animator?' :P

For those suffering with a lagging visualizer, a beefy graphics card really helps, there are other tricks to help, but then you're having to toggle stuff off/on.

Still use the animation myself. Just can't seem to get the hand of the visualizer, and when it first came out, it couldn't do my arches, that's been fixed, but I just can't seem to draw anything in it. The animator is so much simpler and at least I can draw what I want in there, may not be perfect, but works.

Although I don't always use it, sometimes I just use the SE and controllers with lights plugged in and watch the real deal, as nothing compares to the actual item connected to a controller to really see how it is going to look and work!

The BEST thing you can do to improve performance is REDUCE the size of you simulation (in pixels). Go to the Simulation properties and resize it downwards (say 800x600). You can always re-size it back up to edit.

Starting to play with and use the Visualizer for Halloween. Hopefully I can get my Christmas display in the Visualizer soon too. But am using the animator too since that is what I had last year.

The Visualizer is definitely way better so use it if you are new.

I think I like the Visualizer, but I haven't invested the time yet to learn enough to set up my entire display. As long as the Animation, where I HAVE taken the time to set up the entire display, continues to work, I guess I'm not overly motivated to switch. Maybe if the Vis didn't do such a horrible job of rendering twinkles and shimmers I'd be more excited about it.

I have to agree with George, about the shimmer and twinkle, even short blips can be missed, you just have to know it's there. Even with a decent graphics card, the visualizer has issues, but looks better than the animator. DevMike mentioned in another thread that it's a Windows shortfall.

I only use the animator, have since 2007. My latest addition in the animator is a 1200 pixel megatree. I haven't invested the time to change over to the viz, but would recommend it for the newbies.
