scubado
For those new to the hobby, rabbits and squirrels can create a lot of damage to your display. Last year, I had a pesky rabbit that would chew my lights in the same spot each time. I tried using mothballs and some success, you have to use a lot of them and replenish every week or so. When the snow melts, it looks like it hailed in yard and more mess to clean up. A friend of mine bought me a live trap for Christmas and finally got rid of the damn thing. I recently started trapping again and caught to squirrels so far. I have new neighbors with dogs too and rabbits aren't seen as often. I figure, start early to knock down the rodent population and hopefully have less problems this year.BTW, leaving a trickle voltage on the lights didn't stop my rabbit. Torqumada286
The squirrels in my yard like to steal my fluorescent spider webbing I use at Halloween to pad their nests. I have responded with an air rifle. They tend to leave the rest of my display alone...for now.Torqumada
scubado
I would love to do some target shooting too, but I'm in a highly visible spot and too many walkers.
Torqumada286
I have high wooden fences on three sides of my back yard. I only shoot when they are on the ground to keep it from traveling into my neighbors back yard. I also have a greyhound that can run at 45mph. I'm not the best shot, but between me and the dog, we can keep them on their toes and out of the yard.Torqumada

sirrob28
About 3 yrs ago the squirrels distroyed all the icicle lights on the lower part of our house, chewed them all to to little pieces. So we had the big evergreen taken down near the house and the last 2 yrs have been with no issues. This past spring we set up a 12ft mega tree in the back yard to see how it was going to look with our new LOR boxes, left it up for a few days and went to take it down and they chewed thru 14 out of the 16 sets of lights. My dad had the right idea, he electrified a bird feeder they kept getting into so every morning when he would have his coffee he would wait for the squirrel and once one the bird feeder he would push a button and that squirrel would going flyin 50 ft in the air, i have never laughed so hard in my life, lol
