Testing in the rain

For my son's birthday party, I set up my coro pumpkin to show off my animated singing sequences. We didn't get around to it, but I noticed that it was supposed to rain later, so I kept everything out to see how things did in the rain. Once we had a good rain going, I I ran the system through it's paces. With the exception of the USB connector getting some water in it, things worked pretty well.

Any advice on keeping things water resistant?

We need more info as to what exactly you have outside. For example, I'm trying to figure out how you have a USB connector out there...

I had my laptop on the porch. The controller and face were sitting out in the front yard, about 20 feet from the house. The Cat 5 cable reached just to the edge of the porch from where I had the controller attached to my laptop, just close enough to get some of the rain dripping off of the roof. I don't plan on using that set up for Halloween or Christmas.

For Halloween, I hope to have the controller and mini director under the cover of a mausoleum made from PVC and canvas. I may also use a spare PC to run the shows on some nights to give me some flexibility.

For Christmas, I am still trying to figure out where to place the controllers.

Buy a longer Cat5 cable.

I'm curious. How did you get rain?

I've been trying for months.

A rain dance, a rain party. I even dream of rain but to no avail.

I see it in the movies, I see it on the weather channel.

I play the song purple rain (even though I hate the song) just to get rain.

We had a dust storm yesterday, but no rain.

We are in the middle of a drought, which is why we have had 13 inches of rain in the last 6 weeks. I decided to do some home improvements over the summer, like fixing some holes in the porch roof and some rotted soffit and I have had to dodge rain to get the projects done...and yet we are in a drought. In fact, the USDA and the state of Georgia says my area is in the middle of a severe drought...which is why I have to cut my lawn every week and I haven't watered my grass since April, when I put some new seed down in a barren area. Being in an area that gets tropical moisture certainly helps.

I haven't broke out my mower in at least a month and a half (with 2 1/2 acres to boot). That's pretty dry here. I got the weedeater out on a couple surviving weeds though. ;)

Had to shut down our pond fountain as our pond is now too shallow for it to run properly (it's supposed to float, and instead has bottomed out and is sitting at a 45-degree angle.

you need to be moving here to the uk we have plenty of rain to share around the whole world

I was stationed in the UK (England) for two years. I loved the weather there. Absolutely loved it.

I would jump on moving there if I had the chance.

You cant make it rain? Rains everytime I wash the car..

Tj,

I've even left my windows down. I'll try washing my truck and see what happens. :D
