Pulsating Columns

I have 6 columns on my front porch approx 4" wide each. Plan on setting up 8 channels for all 6 columns to have them pulse up and down (like an equalizer on a stereo) Plan on just doing top half of each column from railing up because bushes block the lower portion of each column so i will have about 5 feet to work with.

Thought about the idea of using 4" PVC pipe sliced in half and have lights secured to that. My thought was to also use c6 White LED bulbs and drill the holes in the pvc wide enough to but the socket in the back and screw the bulb in from the front to secure each light. My question is..... with using c6 bulbs am I still going to have a good effect of seeing the light if looking at the bulb straight on?

Let me know how that works out. I have much the same setup with columns on the front of my house. I was thinking of attaching something to the front of them to make it easier to put up and take down. This way I can build them in advance. I have not thought about the PVC pipes but I think it would work well.

Last year I wrapped each column with 100 of each RGBW it took some time but the effect was good.

I will be interested in how yours looks.

I'm experimenting with PVC 4.75"post cover. (Lowes Link) I cut the cover to fit my post length (4' for me) and then cut the cover in half lengthwise (cut on the flats) I pop riveted on 2 small hinges. I now can open the cover (like a clam shell) and place it around my post. In my case I'm installing RGB modules on the cover but as these are VERY bright I'll tone them down with a over-sleeve of white coro.

Hope this helps.

Yes...if you look at my picture/avatar...the lights on the roof are C6 facing outwards...you will get plent of good light straight on...mine were with 4 inch spacing, so if you run them closer than that...so much the better
