overeazy
OK I am trying to figure out how I am going to get everything connected this year. I run my shows off of my HP net book and it has 3 usb ports for me to use. I will be running 16 LOR control boxesand 16 ccr's. Last year I ran all of my boxes off my USB485B. It has 2 cat 5 connectors coming off of it and was thinking I could run off all of my boxes from one connection and 4 of the ccr's off theother. I know they would be on the same network but I need the other two usb ports to each run 6 ccr's on different networks. Will I have a problem doing it like that? thanks
George Simmons
You're going to need 3 separate networks. Sounds like a powered high-speed USB hub is in your future.
bestone
Go to Amazon and buy this hub. Then you won't have to worry about how many USB ports you have. I used this model in my display last year with 3 networks and 2 DMX universes with no issues.http://www.amazon.co...eywords=usb hub Edited August 26, 2012 by bestone
overeazy
So I will need 4 networks then? 2 for the 12 ccr tree, 1 for the 4 ccr circles and 1 for my boxes.thanks think I will get that hub too.
dgrant
Someone correct me please if I'm not thinking correctly. That powered hub, allowing for 7 USB 2.0 ports is all nice but its fed from a single USB connection to the computer, therefore its actually 1 port being broken down into 7. The computer architecture can only send 1 serial data command to a single port at a time even though it happens at warp-speed, still just one command. I would think that a multiple port USB add-on card to the motherboard would be the way to go if it was a desktop but laptop, I've never come across something like that. overeazy
If that is the case then I am better off going the way I was originally thinking. Maybe someone else can clear this up.
PaulXmas
The USB485B is still "ONE" network. The 16 controllers are no problem on one network. The 16 CCRs "might" need at least 4 networks (4 USB485) to work.Using a ubs hub is fine to increase the number of usb ports. dgrant
A USB hub will certainly expand a USB port to multiple ports without question. Now expanding a single port as seperate networks, I have my doubts as to the efficiency but truly, I don't know if this works for LOR controllers and CCR's. Those who have done this before will know what works and what doesn't. I'm a newbie as this is my first year out so I do not have the experience here yet but I do understand computers and how the architecture functions...lol, well, for the most part. Example being, I just learned they've come out with USB3.0 now which I know nothing about and saw that CPU's with more than 4 internal processors, are now up to 12 processors....things are happening so fast, I can't keep up with it all.
