iflights
Can I reasonably expect high quality/High fidelity FM transmission from a lower power transmitter?Like this one:http://www.ebay.com/...=item19d19d5e71I broadcast my iPod through it and it just doesn't have the same quality of sound (richness and bass) in my auto as when I play the iPod directly through the radio<->ipod connection?Thoughts? Recommendations?
rainyoregonchristmas
There is no shortage of advice on FM transmitters, quality, type, range, problems, etc. on the forums. The most recent string was in the Newbies Forum: If you need further info, simply type "transmitter" in the search feature to pull up all sorts of useful info. iflights
Thank you.In my forum searchs there is a ton of recommendations on which transmitter each person has experienced and prefers. But the answer I cannot find in the forums is what should my expectations be for for quality of sound...fidelity. Or asked another way, will my lower power FM transmission ever sound as good as a CD or iPod in the car? Thanks for indulging me one final question on this topic. Max-Paul
Thanks for indulging me one final question on this topic.First, the power level really has nothing to do with quality of sound or fidelity. Thats provided that the receiver has a captured signal (enough energy being received so that there is no static and the stereo indicator is lit). What will matter is the proper level of audio signal to drive the input circuits. To little and you have to turn up the volume on the receiver that can cause more noise. To much and there will be distortion. Now we go into the transmitter and the design and components, along with how well the circuits have been tuned and if the PLL will drift. Some of these cheap transmitters lack in design and quality components. It appears that you have no regard for possible legal intanglement with the 3 letter government that can make things painful. Make sure that the radio is FCC type accepted.

-klb-
I own a Ramsey FM30B. I had my hands on one of the EDM units with RDS for a few weeks in the summer. If I didn't already have a spare FM30B, I'd be buying the EDM.
