scubado
I live at the corner of a culdesac. Last year the T-O-T's went from my house to across the street totally bypassing visiting other houses in the culdesac. This year I have a couple new younger neighbors who like doing stuff for the holidays. My original idea was to invite them up to my house and have a campfire and pass out candy. Then got the idea to do a Zombie feast. I think we'll have about a dozon zombies wondering around aimlessly until the kids get their treat then the zombies hone in on the TOTs. My immediate neighbor is a Marine and he is going to hunt the zombies and rescue the TOTs. The zombies will ignore the little ones, not enough meat! We could also have the zombies eating a TOT as others approach.Has anyone tried anything like this? Open to suggestions or thoughts.
MCas4380
I haven't tried your idea before, but we do try and scare the TOT's every year always loads of fun.

Frybread
I love the idea and sounds like a good time.I always have to control my Halloween setup. Keep it more friendly. I live in a town of about 1200 and I get about 400 T-O-Ts on an average candyfest. I already have a small display that I have received lots of good comments about. This year it gets the LOR treatment.I have kids that are already scared of my Puffer Castle and Drac Dragster Coffin. So, how do you keep the fun level up, without scarring away the T-O-Ts. Always a delima for me.
TJ Hvasta
I reeeeally like the Zombie idea (muhahahahahahahaa). The last several years we've done a whimsical (sort of) Pirates, even tho we used skeletons, it was "light" enough not to frighten.. This year is Wizard of Oz with "Dorothy, Party of 4" as zombies, or at least skeletons so I can use my 3-axis skulls.. its going to be pretty "dark". When we told some of our friends our plans, they immediately said they wont be bringing their kids by (awww, whaddashame ) but then, they are younger (4-10yrs old). I really like your idea of roaming zombies.. Whats the age range of the kids you get? Can they roam around, or be hunted without scaring the littler kids, orrrrr, is that the idea Edited August 14, 2012 by TJ Hvasta

They could be spread out when young ones are around and much closer for the older ones. We could pretend we're trying to enter a neighbors house as another idea. I also know the police chief and a couple of the firefighters, maybe they would be willing to join the act. I know they will be busy patrolling as it is though. My daughter could look into having some high schoolers use it for a video project for school, or the local cable channel.

Torqumada286
Scubado, I understand what you're talking about, not wanting to be too scary. I try to balance spooky with scary and prefer the spooky side. Spooky to me is "IS there anything in the dark" versus the scary of "That zombie is going to eat my face off!" I don't want the young children afraid to come to my house to go trick or treating. The spookiest thing in my display is the cave that I build out of my porch. It's lit with black lights and fluorescent spider webs and filled with fog. When it get's dark, I've had people stop and wait and see what happens, or pull cameras out and take pictures with a flash to try to see what is inside. I like the zombie idea, though.Torqumada
scubado
I like your spooky idea. You could maybe have a pair of glass eyes that capture the light with some sort of eye lids to use on the older ones. Fiber optic balls might be perfect for this.My zombies can be really widespread for the younger ones, it's one of those things you have to play by ear.
