upsdude9351 Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I recently purchased 5 ccrs, no problems getting them to work or sequencing, my question is re: the dreaded cutting of 4 of them, I need to cut approx. 3' off of 4 of them,,,,,(too long for the roofline),, once cut will I have to change the number of channels in SE when adding devices, or simply remove channels at the end of the device added,,, My next question is can the removed pixels be used after they have been cut and how? will the $6 dongle be able to program and run these and will they be as functional as they are now using the dmx dongle,,,, will macros work with a generic dongle?,, i already have 2 lor ctb 16s, an idmx 1000, and 5 ccrs, im only using 20 channels of the idmx currently, so would controlling the extra pixels through the idmx be an effective way to program them? Im planning on using them for a star at the top of a spiral tree?
Val Bennett Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 The stuff you are doing with DMX, dongles, and idmx is over my head, but I have cut CCR's before, left the channels in the sequencer and marked them as "unused". I have also cut CCR's in two lengths and separated them into two separate CCR's in the sequencer. You may want to keep a couple of pixels around for spares, since they can be cut-in to the ribbon to replace a bad pixel (this I have done before - hopefully not often). By the way, it seems like the new visualizer would not let me put in a partial CCR, so I had to put the cut off pixels in the simulation, in a remote corner. I hope you can figure out how to use the extra ribbon for the star, that should look pretty good!
lightzilla Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Couldn't you just wrap black duck tape or electrical tape around the 3 ft you do not use? Chances are no one will see that 3ft all wrapped up.Just a thought..

Short version, you will need power and a proper dmx pixel decoder to drive the extra pixels.
