Been away for a while

Hey everyone,

Sorry, I've been away for so long. been swamped at work and haven't had any time to do anything LOR related. In fact I just saw the sale is almost over....

I realized I better get up to speed and start thinking about things. I still have props to build, stands to make and wire harnesses to build... Not to mention not a bit of sequencing has been done all year. I think I might be in trouble this year.

So what has happened since last Xmas? The new website is a little hard to follow IMO.

I see more and more stuff about DMX and RGB, but I don't see any of that stuff on LOR's website.

So I assume this is all stuff that is not supported by LOR. Maybe I just need to sit down for a while and go through everything, which is probably impossible.

Better yet, could someone get me up to speed on stuff in a few short paragraphs about the DMX stuff?

Nothing too intense, just a synopsis would be helpful! Thanks. :)

This is not specifically for you, but for a lot of people who are seeing the DMX/E1.31 and other off LOR topics, and figuring they need to follow along.

My personal take is that DMX and E1.31 (DMX over IP/Ethernet) are both for people who specifically have something they want to use that LOR does not directly provide, or who specifically are willing to forgo the LOR support and warranty to try and do some things cheaper.

Please, if you want to use them, use them because you have something you want to accomplish. Don't look for reasons to use them because everyone else is. I personally think that someone who has an artistic vision, and makes it work with LOR, or with other hardware driven by LOR will work out better than someone who puts together a pallet of different items because they can, but lacks the vision of the end display.

Also, it is not that any of this stuff is difficult, but once you step out of LOR, there is such a variety of things available, and it can all be different. Getting support for a mix of product can be really unpleasant when you are in the middle of your show, and things have quit working. Please consider your path carefully.
