Splitting mini light strings

I know you can't just cut a string where ever you want to but can you take a 100 count string and make 2 50 count strings?

I thought it might be possible since when 1 light is missing only 1/2 the string goes out.

Yes, you can make two 50's from one 100, and you can make two 35's from one 70.

Make the cut in the middle where there are only two wires between the bulbs.
