gtoyeah
How do you manage to get your lights to stay up on the roof. I'm interested in running white c9s my 2 story home and was wondering how some of you mount the lights so they stay in place. The first story does not have a very high peek, but my second story does. My thoughts are with duck tape. I just don't know if that would work. Im in Murrieta California so weather really isnt a problem. Can anyone please give me their thoughts. Thanks in advance!!! mmaness
Others will jump in with better answers, but for C9s I use light clips I purchased at Wal-Mart. Most places that sell lights also sell light clips. Duct tape is good for a bit of time, but over a long holiday season I don't think it'll hold up. spomalley
A lot of people use shingle clips, sorry but I can't find a link.
Orville
I use plastic screw down plastic cable clamps. They look like a small C, can be spread apart and I put the light wire inside the clamp and screw it down to the side of the roofline along the house. That is if you don't mind small screw holes along your roofline. Although they aren't all that visible. And I will usually screw the clamp back in and leave it in the same position for the following year, they may or may not be that noticable depending on the color of your house. This little clamps are sort of an off-white to creamish looking color. I've been using them for years to not only hold my lights in place, but my cat5 cables, extension cords, speaker wire and some wall mounted decorations. They come in assorted sizes, I bought all mine at Skycraft Surplus many years ago and haven't seen them back there yet, but I keep looking. As the sun will do a number on them after a few years out there.BTW: I put one small clamp that just holds the light strand wire half-way between every 4th bulb/LED. gtoyeah
great ideas.Slipstream-I think i understand what your describing and seems to make since to me. I have also been doing a little research else where and have heard of guys using thin wood stips at the top, then letting the lights go to the eve, wrapping around a nail they put in then back up. Not so sure about that idea.
Max-Paul
CDI sells a right angled clip that has a "Y" foot that goes under the edge of a shingle. And you install the lights by unscrewing the lamp and inserting it in the holder with the socket on the back side. Also by buying a chip that has groves in it. You can use these same clips to mount on a hard surface. Then slide the clip into the chip. Well I hot glued the chip onto my roof line. Ya looks strange in the summer but sure does make installing and removal a lot faster and simpler. BTW I have R,G,B, & W and I have a bulb every 3". Thank God for LED C9 bulbs or local utility would have to build a new reactor just for my needs.
trafficman
I run a small cable on the backside of the peek of the roof. I ziptie to it then run down to the gutter line and tie off on my other lights.I have 32 lines by 4 color on the roof and it works well for me. gtoyeah
Wow. These are food ideas too! Very well thought out. And I like how you space then 3 inches apart. That would be my next question. I am using the led c9s so 3 inches is best? Again. Im the guy that typicial uses this site to read and lean. I thank you all.
jbzeus
I"m using C9s (the old style as I like the look) I to have placed them every 3" by creating a "super string" of four runs of sockets each with a single color. I can only chase in color but I don't chase them right now. I use the same setup for Halloween but with purple bulbs. Front gutter is 70'. Love the look! brownjm74
Here is the design that I came up with a couple of years ago. It consists of using PVC to follow the roof outline.http://www.brownchristmaslightshow.com/roof-outline-lights.htmlHope this helps,
