jerrymac
I converted a few (5) new ATX power supplies for DMX use.I have 2 that have the same issue. One powers off as soon as a load is applied. (after a few minutes you can power back on but again fails as soon as you apply load). The second has the same issue but not immediate and not every time.I have crossed the green wire to one of the black wires. The others seem to worm fine. Max-Paul
Just like a bird man to be thinking of worms. LOLQuestion, the unit that fails as soon as you put a load on it. Is this load the same that is being put on the good 3 P.S.s? I mean the same strings of lights, not simular. I am wondering if it is the P.S. or the load. P.S. sounds like it does not like the load, like the load has a short or the load is greater than the P.S. is built to handle. And the 5th one that will run for a time and then fail. Something is warming up and failing. Is this again a common load that you are testing all of the P.S.s or is it a different load again?Really need more details before I could say what needs a closer look at. edvas69
The issue with using ATX power supplies is that they are designed for use with more than one voltage and if you supply 1 voltage to one load only then this can cause the power supply to fail as you end up with a load imbalance within the power supply. Some power supplies can handle this and other will not, I dare say that may be what is happening, try putting some load on the other voltage outputs and see if it will work for you then.
