Help setting up Unit ID for Cosmic Color Pixels

I recently recieved a shipment of CCP's and am having trouble setting up the ID. I have plugged in the device and am getting a blinking green LED which goes to constant when the controller is plugged in. I then run CAT5 from a jack in the controller to a USB485 connector which then connects to my PC. I then Open my hardware utility and hit the auto configure button and after a short while I get the following message.

Unable to locate the Light-O-Rama port. Check the controller is connected and that it is powered on.

I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand with this issue. I just set-up another CTB16PC controller about 5 minutes ago and had no problem at all. The only thing that is different since setting up the CTB is that I just now upgraded to the standard software version. I looked through the online Manual and could find nothing to help.

Anyone got any ideas?

The Auto Configure button is used to help you select the correct Comm port. Since you were able to setup a CTB16PC, one can presume that you have the correct Comm port assigned.

Go ahead and connect the CCP controller up to your USB485 and wait for the solid light. Once you get that, hit the "Refresh" button (just to the right of the "Auto Configure") and the HWU should find it.

Once you have determined the comm port that the system assigned to the particular USB adapter that you are using there is no need to do Auto Config. Just select the correct comm port when you open the Hardware Utility Program.

The CCPs take a little longer to sync up with communications than does most of the other controllers. 2-15 seconds vs the 2-5 seconds of other LOR controllers.

So start the hardware utility program, select the correct port and do a Refresh. It may take a second Refresh before the CCP gets into sync.

Thanks for the info guys. I was under the impression that the every unit needed to be configured.

I got the unit working, however when I test the lights in the hardware utility I can only get the first 5 lights of one string to come on. I have tried different settings in the HU to fix this but am having no luck. Am I missing something?

Again thanks for the help

Hello,

Each string of lights is 150 channels (3 channels per bulb) so if you are testing the first 16 channels you would be hitting the first 5 bulbs (plus one channel on the 6th bulb)

You could control more of the string by using the console and moving to higher channel numbers but at this point it may make more sense to make simple sequences in the Sequence Editor and do your testing.

Dan/Don,

Thanks for the responses, I actually just figured it out about 30 min ago. Lights are looking great. I am obviously new to the RGB/Pixel scene and really appreciate the info from those who can offer it.

Dan,

I was actually in the process of using the sequence editor to do my test just before I got your reply. The lights are working perfectly and my kids are having a blast following all of the different chase sequences that I am throwing at them. Great Product! Awesome job Light-O-Rama.
