jck46
what length light strings are needed for a 10ft tree all i can find is 100 ct but nobody gives a length
james campbell
I used 100 count mini incandescents that are around 24 feet in length. I had 14 strings that I ran to the top and back down the same side so it ended up at about 11 feet taking out the space with no lights. you can also run the lights up one side and down the opposing side effectively doubling your tree with the same channels

Leds are usually different than incans. You state the tree will be 10ft tall , but what will the diameter of the circle be at the ground ?
jck46
i suppose it will be 5 ft round

LORisAwesome
The pythagoreum theorum might be useful here.a squared + b squared = c squared. Where a = the length of your center pole, and b = the radius of your ground circle. c = the length of the string needed. So we solve for c....10' center pole squared = 100', 5 foot radius squared = 25'c squared = 100' + 25' or 125'. The square root of 125' = 11.18'. c=11.18'You would need a string 11.18' long to go from the top of your mega tree to the ground at 5 ft away from the pole.Jerry
LORisAwesome
Forgot to mention that this only works for right triangles. ie the angle of the center pole and the ground is 90 degrees.
bisquit476
What I did with my 10ft mega's (Loopychristmas dot com) was take a Walmart 100ct mini light set and split it in half, zip tying the bulbs together. See pic. It leaves about 18" at the bottom of the tree. Attached files
Max-Paul
LORisAwesome,Thanks for the math. I had done a quick in the head guess about the height and radius and the 100 ct strings I had. I had settled on 17' height and a 10' dia ring at the bottom. Using your math I did a quick and dirty of 15' height and 5' radius. Came out 15.8' with the above. So this will put the ring up 1 - 1.5' above the ground. This is great and I have some cinder blocks around that I can tie the ring off to.Thanks again for the math.Max
