paralegalnc Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 I just ordered my 16 channel starter kit.... so i can get working on sequences. I think it will be semi ok, I have watched all the tutorials and pretty savey with creative software... I haven't gotten the fm transmittor yet (budget didn't allow it yet, figured I'd get that later) I am going to use my laptop to run the show this year. Was I supposed to get the converter thing? I assume that I will be hooking a strand of lights (just regular ones this year) to each channel when I get the sequences figured out to see what it does then I'll set it up in the back yard.I know what music I am going to use...I can see it in my head... but I am stumped with the midi wizard. I need that to make the cool chasing tree thing?? I have mp3s...
Don Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 If you ordered this starter kit:http://store.lightorama.com/rese16chstpa.htmlThen you have everything you need to get started. No worries there. (That kit has a converter in it.)The midi wizard is not one of my favorite features of the software. Can't tell you the last time I used it. The Beat Wizard will probably be more helpful to you as it will get some timing marks into your sequence for you, and usually put them in a place that will be of great use to you.You don't need the midi wizard to do chases. The Chase Tool can save you a great amount of time on setting up the chases. Look here for more information on the Chase tool.
paralegalnc Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 good. I won't worry about that yet. I saw the picture of the set up and was concerned because the description didnt say.so the chase tool is what I need for that dancing tree? I want a dancing tree the are sooooo cool. But then it brings be to RBG/RGB channels. what are they?
Aaron Maue Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Paralegal,Your best bet at his point is to read the software users manual all the way through, check Youtube and Vimeo for some videos, then read through the manual again. In my experience, it's organized we'll enough that it's very easy to read through and easy to understand. This will go a long way in helping you put your thoughts into action. And one last bit of advice - extension cords. Maybe not quite as big a deal if you're gonna stick with 16 channels your first year. But in general, expect to use twice as many as you think you need right now.And welcome to the obsession, er, hobby. Once you get hooked, you won't be able to stop. Good luck with your dancing trees.

But then it brings be to RBG/RGB channels. what are they?Well, the chase tool would be simply one of many tools in the LOR Software that can help you achieve a 'dancing tree' effect. As for RGB - RGB stands for "Red, Green, Blue." An RGB bulb has all three of those colors inside of it, allowing you to come up with any color you wish. (And just to clarify - you can do a dancing tree without RGB bulbs. People have been doing so for years.)
paralegalnc Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 obsession?? just because I have my husband in the garage as we speak, making yard art in May before my starter kit has been delivered... I wouldn't call me obsessed. I am hoping to use my light show for a fundraiser... so it has to be awesome!

rescue_653 Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 The easiest thing to do at first is play around with Sequence Editor, try out different things see what you like and dont like. I learned alot about LOR on my on, I didnt even really come around here until well after my first season was complete!

paralegalnc Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 No, I'm not obsessed. OMG I'm almost done with my first sequence! (couple more hours maybe) Here with my coffee...got my headphones plugged in... everyone is asleep. This is truly addicting. I have the Mr. Christmas that I've used for 3 years... and people come by and park. Last year this guy brought his kid every night to see my lights. My heart swelled cuz that's the magic of Christmas. this year my son has an internship... there is a guy he works with that lives in our town that said he'd pick him up and take him. My son told him the street we lived on and he said "yeah I know where that is, there is a house that has lights, I took my son every night to see them" Now THAT is the reason! don't you think? and it stoaked my ego too I must say.Aaron...where did you get that Believe sign?? that is awesome. hmmmmm "oh honey...got another project for you!"
Aaron Maue Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 paralegalnc wrote:Aaron...where did you get that Believe sign?? that is awesome. hmmmmm "oh honey...got another project for you!"I made it from 2 sheets of plywood. It's about 4' tall and 15' wide. I found a font I liked, printed the word on a transparency, traced it onto the plywood, cut it out and painted. We get lots of compliments on it and it's one of my favorite elements. I think I still have the Word and .pdf files. PM me your email address and I'd be happy to send it to you, if you'd like.BTW... Great story about your display's visitors. And I completely agree. That IS the reason.
paralegalnc Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 oh I'd love it... pjfantetti@yahoo.com my husband can build anything. He has been working on welding stuff... his project today is to get my guitars finished. He's already done some snowflakes. I just tell him what I want and PRESTO... Plywood we have. paint we have. a gable to hang it like you have....well.... but I have a roof! it can go right next to santa in the hot air balloon!
