Need some suggestions

I currently have a five foot blowmold Santa that I display on my roof during the season. I built a platform that he stands on and I use long rope to tie it under the eaves of my roof. I also have six blowmold reindeer and two wireframe reindeer with a wireframe sliegh that I group together on the ground to form the sliegh and reindeer scene.

My idea is to move the sliegh and reindeer on to the roof with Santa but I really don't know how I would be able to mount them up there. I have seen some of your displays with this setup, How do you keep them up there?
here is what the reindeer look like.

I quit putting stuff up on my roof due to problems keeping them anchored. I never wanted to install any penetration's to my roof so I used bricks to anchor things down.

If I were to go back to displays on the roof I would most likely place some I bolts in the roof and tar them to death to make sure they did not leak. I would be interested to hear what others have done as well.

I was thinking of building a steel frame that would straddle the peak and then mounting the reindeer to the frame and then hold it down with sand bags.

Any thoughts on that?

We had a hail storm last year that wiped out our roof, so when I had the roof redone, I had them install 6 eyebolts in to the peaks to tie down my Mega Roof Arch, they are properly sealed, and held it up great. The arch itself probably weighs close to 200 lbs.

you didn't mention what kind of roof you have shingles, clay tile, or metal, if it is a shingled roof you could mount some 2x4s to the roof, add flashing that goes under the shingles and over the 2x4 then add some eye hooks to the 2x4 and now you have an anchor system to mount your display.

just because I suggest this does not mean I am responsible for your roof, keep in mind I am a contractor, and I know what I am doing, if in doubt hire a contractor or a roofer for your house.

What I would do.. is have angled steel that will match the pitch of your roof line.. THEN add straps on both sides that will sit on the roof so to speak. and you can sand bag those. When I get back to the office I will draw you up what I am thinking..

+1 for sandbags!

I used to use sandbags all over my display, to hold a mini tree on the roof, to hold my old mega tree to the lawn, and to hold 3 mini trees on top of a van.

Unlike other elements, the wind never took anything with a sandbag. I think that's because the sandbag "gives" a little, allowing the element to bend with the wind, as opposed to being stiff and pulling out a nail.
