Schedule Editor

I've read several posts about this. The help file wasn't nearly as helpful as the forums. Please let me know if I have done this right. Easter show is going live Sunday night!

I have two musical sequences in one show

A- 2:46 long
B- 7:12 long

total: 9:58

I want to have them play every 10 minutes, but the schedule editor is nearly impossible to set up ten minute shows (they are too small to click for future editing and you have to add so many!)

In the schedule editor, I have a show starting every 30 minutes and lasting for 29 minutes.

That should play the sequences in the show A 3 times, and B 2 times and start it a third. With musical sequences running out at the end of the sequence, I will get three of each. RIGHT?

I think that I probably need to cut the second one down 3-5 seconds as there is sometimes a 1-2 second delay between sequences which means that while the 29 minute scheduled show should be lasting 29:54, it could run over into the next show scheduled in the editor. RIGHT?

If that happens, does the next show just start a few minutes late? Or does it start immediately and stop the previous show? Or is there some error that would be generated and muck things up?

My intent is to have the show start on time on the hour and half, and maybe a few seconds early on the 10, 20, 40 and 50. I don't want to run a few seconds late and have those seconds pile up and have the show running a minute late for the last one.

I have a very simple idea... add 2 seconds to make the show exactly 10 minutes and make it play continuous.

I have an even simpler idea. Run it as is in a continuous loop. Put your stop watch away and find something more worthy to obsess about.

Your viewers won't care whether the show begins precisely on the dot. If it's good they'll watch and if it sucks they'll leave, regardless of what time it starts.

Disagree George, over 3 hrs, it would get off about 36 seconds. Imagine telling your spouse to be ready to leave at 6:00 and you decided to walk out the door and leave 36 seconds early.....:(

Agree with George. Your over thinking this thing out. Set-up a show schedule and put the two seq in the show and let it rip.

Thanks. Over-thinking. I like that and will try not to obsess about it.

I tend to agree and I blame it on my OCD. ;)

I do like the idea of announcing that my display starts "on the hour/half hour" or "the nines", etc.

Remember there is the time of the sequences and then a little time maybe a second or two to start the show. I tried to add the 2 seconds and wound up with the last show starting 1:36 late.

OCD! Yep. I have those stupid plastic drawers from Staples to organize my wires and other crapola. There is a drawer that is labeled "Staples, Paper Clips and Binder Clips" My spouse once put a box of paper clips in the drawer labeled "batteries" Why? WHY? Why, for God's sake would you do such a thing? ;)

Too funny, if it weren't true for me I'd be laughing. Perfectionism is a curse I tell ya!

The difference between your OCD and my ADD:

I also have drawers like those. I just never get around to putting things in them...

So, for anyone reading this in the future....

I was able to get the shows to start every ten minutes with a small deviation in the range of 5 seconds early to 12 seconds late.

Sequence Lengths:

A: 2:44.56
B: 7:09.00

Total : 9:53.56

Show just has those two sequences in the musical tab

Schedule is a show starting on each half hour and running for 29 minutes.

Sample log...

7:30:00 PM: Starting Show
7:30:01 PM: Loading Compressed Sequence A
7:30:01 PM: Starting Musical A
7:32:48 PM: Ending Musical A
7:32:48 PM: Loading Compressed Sequence B
7:32:48 PM: Starting Musical B
7:39.59 PM: Ending Musical B
7:39:59 PM: Starting Musical A
7:42:45 PM: Ending Musical A
7:42:45 PM: Starting Musical B
7:49.56 PM: Ending Musical B
7:49:56 PM: Starting Musical A
7:52:43 PM: Ending Musical A
7:52:43 PM: Starting Musical B
7:59:00 PM: Current show is entering shutdown mode
7:59:54 PM: Ending Musical B
8:00:00 PM: Starting Show...

Sorry to be anal about this, but I was out looking at Christmas shows last year and gave up on some after waiting 10-15 minutes from the appointed start time.

And just how much more evidence do you need underlining the folly and pitfalls of posting/advertising such a totally unnecessary detailed schedule in the first place?

And if you do finally put something in them, you sure as heck won't have the drawers labeled.
