drums114
I am just playing with my new EDM transmitter. However is there any way around using USB instead of Serial connection for the RDS transmission? I am not even sure I have a computer with serial port anymore... Steven
I use a USB-to-Serial converter to update RDS on my EDM transmitter. I understand that some converters won't work, however. Mine is an AirLink101 USB to serial adapter, which AirLink101 doesn't seem to make anymore, but you can still order from EPC.
drums114
But that USB end does not look like the right one to plug into the EDM or another USB plug.

The serial (DB-9) plugs into the cable supplied with the EDM transmitter.

drums114
I was going to buy the cable through that site however it looks like they only send it to a Canadian address. Any other place sells it?
-klb-
I think the key thing is that the adapter and driver support all the state pins (DTR, DSR, etc) and at a timely update. The RDS communicates by bit banging those signal lines.I've used a gold-X USB to serial successfully, just don't have the model handy.
jmjordan
I used the IOGEAR USB 2.0 to Serial/PDA Converter Cable GUC232A successfully last year. Amazon and Newegg carry it.
