NEWTOUR
Can i use spt-1 or spt-2 for both extention cords and making my own light strings?
Aaron Maue
You can use both. They make light sockets and vampire plugs for both SPT1 and SPT2 wire.
Aaron Maue
I should have said that you can't mix them on the same cord though. If you use SPT1 cord, be sure to use SPT1 light sockets and vampire plugs.I got SPT2 vampires to work on SPT1 cord las year, but had extra difficulty with some of the connections. Since I had run out of SPT2 wire (has anyone mentioned that you'll need lots of extension cords? ) and had only SPT2 plugs, though, I didn't have much choice. This year, I'll be replacing those combo cords with all SPT2.
Steven
It bears repeating that the only difference between SPT-1 and SPT-2 is the thickness of the insulation.
NEWTOUR
Just to make sure I understand correctly. I can use either and they both make extension cords also and will both plug into regular extention cords too?
Aaron Maue
That's correct, newtour.

Aaron Maue
You may be able to do better on price if you search for awhile, but I recently bought a small batch of them from 1000bulbs.com. I used the Minleon brand, as I understood those to be dimmable, although I don't need to dim them in my particular application. They're nice and bright in the full on state.http://1000bulbs.com/search/?filter%5Bcategory%5D=1993&filter%5Bbrand%5D=Minleon

Last time I checked - admittedly quite a while ago - they were still trying to get rid of those.
