LightsinMaine
William is correct...that is what is on my boards that are Gen 3 that I just purchased 2 weeks ago direct from LOR
Guest wbottomley
They are not "Gen 3" boards. Gen 2.Where Gen 3 came from is probably from the showtime series. But.. for the pc series, it's Gen 2.Can someone take a picture of their showtime unit that has the latest version boards in them? I'm talking about the ones with the digital read out. LightsinMaine
William...I just looked at the new book that came with my CTB and on the cover says CTB16PCg3 Generation 3 user manual (so that may be where the confusion lies)...I beleive mostly for Gen3 refers to the firmware allowing you to work with lighting curves. correct me if I'm wrong.... mackdave
So why does LOR sell them as Gen3
LightORamaJohn
mackdave wrote:So why does LOR sell them as Gen3The board you are talking about is a g3 controller. These CTB16PC boards are marked "CTB16PCG2 - V4" which refers to the circuit board rev level. The main differences from the previous generation are faster processors, higher current accessory power supplies, ghost loads and much better zero cross detection -- obviously we also moved to surface mount technology to keep the price stable. Additionally, the firmware has been upgraded to support LED curves. We decided to call these g3 since there have been a few generations of the original PC controllers. We should have changed the silk-screening to avoid confusion. Sorry about that. The picture attached is a g3 CTB16PC. Attached files
dgrant
The newest ones seem to have the 20-pin header as well but I've only got two controllers so far and I just got these like two months ago or so.

It is a micro LED (I guess that's what they're called.)
rgardner518
Okay here is a question for the teche people. How can i wire an external led to the board so i can mount a remote led on the outside of the encloser?
Aaron Maue
Check this thread...http://forums.lightorama.com/forum76/32266.htmlEdit: that was for the old boards. I should have read the prior post more closely to get the Gen3 context. Sorry.

There is a picture of my G2 PC boards with the remote LED. I know how to do it to G2 PC boards. But it's the G3's I don't know how to do it. It's laid out differently and it's not a traditional LED on it.That's why I was thinking a teche or someone who has a G3 and has done it already would be able to help. harrison0550
Now that the boards have moved to surface mount technology is there still going to be a DIY kit? I've done some surface mount soldering but from the looks of the pic above some stuff is going to be way to small for my skill level and current setup to work with.Like a complete reeree I ask the above question before searching for the answer. Below is the answer..........LightORamaDan wrote:That is a good idea... I have held off on providing kits for the Gen3 cards but will be adding kits for the older cards back to the store. One of the issues with the Gen3 kits is that we want to sell them with the surface mount parts already installed. But without the some of the thru hole parts it would be fairly difficult and time consuming to test the surface mount parts. Once we get that flushed out we will include Gen3 kits in the store with some type of kit indicator... (I like it).Dan
