DMX from Serial Port Adpt.

I have an old original LOR adapter that went from the 9 pin serial port to an RJ45 port, The SC485 - RJ45 serial adapter. Can that be used to control RAW DMX by using the Blue pair of wires (pin 4,5)?

I am trying to set up 1 LOR network with the USB485B connected to several LOR boards and a iDMX-1000 as a LOR network. And then use the SC485 serial adapter with an LOR board and DMX devices running RAW DMX as a 2nd network.

Final Result would be Comm 3 as a Reg LOR network using the iDMX to convert the LOR to DMX for some devices. And have the Serial Port, comm 5, with the SC485, be a RAW DMX network?

Another question is Are all LOR boards capable of being used in the RAW DMX mode? Even the original CDB-08 boards (they are the version 4 boards with the firmware 2 chip).

Thanks
Kevin

Greg-
Would it be possible to plug into a USB port a USB to Serial converter cable then attach the SC485-RJ45 serial adapter to run raw DMX? If not, could the SC485-RJ45 serial adapter be used for a reg LOR network with an iDMX-1000 in it?
Thanks,
Rich

Most serial ports, including built-in and USB-to-serial adapter cables, can typically run at 115kbps maximum. DMX is usually 250kbps.

Yes, that's the purpose of the iDMX-1000.

I hate to say this but... I'd toss the old serial adapter and just get one of the new usb units. I did although the serial did not go far on the toss ya gotta have a backup :). Yes it may cost a few bucks more but my show along with many others shows ran flawless with them using lor protocol. I'm using mine now in the off season to control one of Greg's Rainbow brains that controls the rgb floods on my 55 gallon aquarium 24/7. As far as using a converter I wouldn't bother and keeping it serial and buying a idmx to control things when cheaper ways exist? If you already have one go for it try it out just don't try to shimmer ;)

Thanks for all the info. I was just trying to come up with a few options if the 1.31 feature was not released in time for this years display. I think I will just continue to wait for the 1.31 feature to be implemented and if its not ready in time I will just buy another USB485B converter to use for my 2nd DMX universe.
