How should I decorate my house?

I love the red, green, and white idea that Richard Holdman uses, and I'd like to be able to do that with some of my elements. I'd also like to use very little of the roof, if possible. I have a tall second story house and I'm not sure how willing my parents are to climb up there and hang lights, given I'm only 16!

Here is the link to a pic of my house:

This is my first year with LOR and I am loving it. I have a 16 channel controller that I got for this past Xmas. I purchased approximately 20 boxes of C7 bulbs this season, and would love to use them on the two taller bushes by the left window.

I also have 2 5' trees and 1 6' tree that are all pre-lit with white.

I have a small budget, so I'd love to keep the display condensed to avoid too much extension cord usage.

Thanks for any input you guys have, and I trust you all very much!

Thanks,

Trent

I would suggest choosing a simple roof outline. You have great lines on the roof it would be a shame not to use it.
As for other Ideas. I think the most bang for your buck is a Mega Tree or Mini Tree's. I suggest 5-7 mini trees all single color and an 8 channel mega tree. Then you have 1 to 3 channels for house/roof.
Just my experience from last year where I wasted alot of channels in my early plans for things that didn't have much effect, like I broke my Garage door into 3 channels, when really I just needed 1. Same with 3 channels on my front door when one color would have done. I ended up just adding more channels to put up my 16 channel mega and my 6 two color mini's.

last year was my first year as well, and I wanted multiple colors too.....what I found quickly was that I was channel limited. Ultimately I chose to just do static lights on the trees and around the front of my house, then did a 16 channel, 4 color mega tree. It doesn't rotate as smoothly as something with more channels, but I wanted the colors.

I like what Tremor said about the lower roofline, it's just begging for an outline, but maybe consider that a static element. Then you could have 8 channels for a single color mega tree, and 8 left over for 8 single color mini-trees or 4 dual color trees.

A neighbor of mine made something similar to a single color static mega tree (esentially 1 channel). I wasn't sold on it at first, but you could do the entire mega tree as 3 solid colors + star(4 channels), then it would leave you with 12 channels for 4 3-color changing minitrees....
Lots of ideas in these forums, you have to decide first on the look or effect you want to create........good luck!

I have hooks on my house. They are metal 2" hooks spray painted the color of my trim. I paid a roofer $50 to install a few years ago (don't do ladders). It takes me about 8 hours to get all my lights up. And about 4 take them down (in between breaks).

I also use a 20 foot painters extension pole with a barbecue fork duck taped to it. I use this to hang the lights on the tree and the house.

My advise to you, is to not try to go overboard the first year. I think you are on a good road right now to success with your display. My first year, I was 15, and I planed to have 32 channels, and it seemed like anything that could go wrong, did. I managed to pull it off, but it wasn't easy. And then in 2011 I decided to go with DMX controller which were cheaper and more in my budge, I had everything set up and ready to go, but the weather here in Indiana came and wiped a lot of my display out (and there are reasons for that). So, each year you will face challenges, but each year you will get better and learn something new (like this year I learned that the ground doesn't always freeze in Indiana like it has every year in the past so I can't stake things down in the frozen ground, which is now wet soil, like I used to).
