rgardner518
I wonder how they did this and if it's LOR?

FireMedic4Christ
It electroluminescent wire. Someone either here or on PC has successfully controlled it via LOR although I do not know about if it was wireless or not. For a static display, I would think with the DC board or some wall wart of the correct flavor would work.I had this bookmarked for reference as well. http://vimeo.com/28506700Let us know what you come up with. Guest guest
It could very well be controlled via an LOR DC Control board. You can buy 12VDC batteries that are very compact and have a lot of power, so I can actually see this being LOR controllable and completely mobile, if you think about it, the DC Board is quite mobile since it can be used on a basic automobile, so why not electroluminescent wires? They actually don't require that much voltage, I think most can be operated as low as 3vdc depending on the wire itself. So it may not be LOR, then again, do we really know? gizmomkr
I use EL wire in my Show. Im a huge fan of EL product.I honestly dont know how they get the timing SPOT ON. Or I know and just dont have the patience. There are actually MDX controllers for EL wire, but very pricey. Most using EL wire, drive it with a 12v dc inverter. Electrically EL wire is like a capacitor. The glow appears as the material rapidly charges and discharges.2 big pain-in-the-a$$ parts for syncing is the rate of charge of the material and the time it takes for the inverter to power up and cut off.I use wall warts with a regular controller, but you could use a DC controller. It will also drive you insane splicing / solderingHere is a link to a Christmas Carolina presentation I did on it http://vimeo.com/14847526Its hard to photo well with all the other elements, but you can see it around the base of one of my trees - it looks like blue neon. http://welightupthenight.com/wp-content/gallery/christmas-2011-getting-ready/2011.jpg
Surfing4Dough
I think Mobil just uses simple backlighting. Maybe LED but probably just fluorescent lighting. Doubt controlled by LOR though.

Mwhite7097
I do think they use it for the price per gallon though. You ever see how rapidly they change?
rgardner518
Ok, so I forgot the e when typing! I realized this after the fact. But there is not edit to fix it. So I figured, you all get my point!

I cant stop laughing every time I reopen this thread. I thought the start was cool, I enjoyed the video, then the mobil sign, now the LOR Mobil partnership. I cant take it!
