Looking at a new laptop question is does LOR work with a Macbook? or do I go with the regular pc (which they all run windows7) now two things, the laptop I am running now will operate LOR and run my shows so my thinking is move all my LOR stuff down stairs freeing up the office for my wife (making her happy = more controllers) or just leave it alone cost wise a new pc is going to run me around 1400 where as the mac will be around 2400 my daughter says a mac what do you think??

won't LOR run on a MAC with that "virtual windows" stuff?

because my friend has a MAC and I am pretty sure he is using LOR on it...

Don,

Depending on what else you want to do with the computer (besides LOR, that is), you might think about doing what I've done.

I have a MacBook Pro for everything but LOR. For LOR, I have a cheap show computer (desktop PC) I bought used for $135 shipped (no monitor) and a cheap laptop I use for sequencing that I bought used for $180 shipped. Both are dual core and run Win7. Both more than capable of running LOR, and I don't have to compete for use of the main computer. I use Windows Remote Desktop to connect from my laptop to the desktop to copy files, set up the show schedule, etc.

Seems to work very well for us. Plus, way cheaper than a $1400 or $2400 investment. More money for lights and controllers. :)

Just my 2 cents.

well I like this, the computer will be for work and travell and my laptop that I am currently using will become my show computer so I guess my question should have been what is the better laptop a mac or a pc??

Ah, now that's a new question. :) I'm personally a Mac guy, so I default to that most of the time. Though I haven't tried it myself, there are some people here that I believe will tell you they use a Mac running Parallels or Boot Camp or something similar to allow them to run LOR on their Mac.

Short story - it won't run natively on the Mac OS, but will run on the hardware when you add the right software. Note that you'll have to provide your own copy of Windows to install as well.

My question is where in the world are you shopping at those prices? For $1400, I would expect that you could get two or even three nicely-decked-out PCs...

Rummage sales is a great place to get cheap computers for show computers. For sequencing you'll want something balzy with two 23" monitors.

$1,400- $2,400 for a computer?? What do washer go for $4,000 - $6,000???????

Just saying.:)

Washers go for around $500 to $900 and dryers around $400 .We don't have the population base that our southern neighbors have or the competition, that's why I try to do lots of my hunting and fishing supplies when we go to Michigan every August for a Nascar weekend.

Thanks Denis for clearing that up for Pete maybe if we had 350 million people living in Quebec our prices would come down :)

having been the the PC arena since 1985, the mac's are a much better machine (would explain but don't want to get on my anti-microslouch soapbox). Never have understood the Apple price point though. Yes I have an iPod, iPod touch, iPhone, iPad2, and a mac mini but for my business most of my business stuff doesn't run on a mac so all W7.

I like things that simply work for hours, days, months, years at a time without a reboot. Mac's and Novell networks were some of the only things that can do that.
