I've been using 5mm LEDs for four years. I started with my tree, and slowly changed the rest of the display over to all LEDs. I love the look of the 5mms, as they're the closest match to incandescent minis, but much brighter and colorful. One of the reasons I chose them is that they allowed me to merge the LEDs and incandescents and slowly transition over. You can see my current video http://www.lightsondisplay.com/2011.html, which is five colors of 5mms in the whole display, and then go back to the early years up to 2008 and see the transition.

Dan,

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed my display! I've been very happy with the 5mms and they've held up very well over the years, only a couple failures so far. People always comment on the lights and I hear a few "oohs" and"aahs" when they all light up.

ill be over the moon if mine looks as good as your 2004 show

You can definitely see the progression of my displays. Take your time and every year it'll be fun to try new things and add more elements to your display. There's only so much time and money each year, and I try to walk the fine line of balancing the display with everything else going on in my life.

I used 5mm Cool White on my mega tree. Search "Nahoolewa" on youtube and you'll find my display. Videos not great but i think you'll find what your looking for.

Mike you have a great display. Not only the lights but the animation and I would like to ask about the video in the wreath, which just adds to the experience. Great!!!

Thank you! Let me know what questions you have regarding the wreath screen, I'd be happy to answer them.

Most of my display is 5mm lights. I think they are great although, sometimes I have to dim them. The spiral mega on the right is 25' high and over 200' from the road. The 5mms look plenty bright on it.
