Tom Clapper Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Ok I just watched Holdmans video of his mall show and would like to know how he accomplished the look of his Mega Tree. I plan to add a mega to next years display but It will only be about 12'-15' and am debating the idea of doing a traditional mega tree, or one like his. I'm thinking if it's 12' tall then I would make it 6 channels of each color R/G/W but how would I figure the amount of lights needed to fill the 2' sections of the tree, and how would you wrap them..make vertical supports and use screws spaced evenly on them to keep the lights mounted on them? Any idea on spacing? Any info greatly appreciated.
Guest wbottomley Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Those trees are called "Z trees."They were named after the talented Mike Ziemkowski created them: http://www.lightsondisplay.com/
Robin Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Is that the same Mike Ziemkowski that actually creates things? I think his display this year was one of his finest.

Robin Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Keep in mind these are not my Christmas Display sequences. I did this for New Years Eve for all the neighbors. We had a fire and everyone sat around until about 2am. So these were just some good old boy songs. However, they do show the tree and some of the patterns. Just threw the songs together so we would have something to listen to mostly.
Robin Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 653 You know I am just playing with you. I know your tree as well and it is awesome!
Tom Clapper Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 120 and 105 channels!! Well if either of you are willing to donate $1600 to my display to purchase the 8 new controllers I would be more than willing to make mine that many!
Robin Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 No offense but you need to get a few sequences under your belt before you tackle that. Oh and it was not even close to $1,600.00 maybe $800 for mine.

Guest wbottomley Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Tom... if you want a kick-butt tree, you'll have to spend a chunk of change. Or... go basic like my 5.
Robin Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Now Ron Lister has had this tree for about five years. Someone shot this video of it.

It like I was told when I got in the fire service 15 years ago if we ain't picking on you we don't like you, so in my mind a little bit of good honest humor is all in the fun of it.

Robin Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 653 I think you misunderstood. That was six controllers for the one tree, plus 9 channels from another controller for the other items. The star had 8 channels and the strobes had one.I had a total of 49 controllers for the entire display.
