Guest guest Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Okay, I WILL be purchasing an EDM transmitter near mid to end of January 2012 when they start taking orders again. And since they are shut down until 1/9/2012 can't really navigate around their site to find an answer on this.So I was wondering if EDM also sells a seperate antenna for purchase to go along with your transmitter purchase? Or is this something you have to buy from an outside vendor? If they don't, this is the antenna I am considering buying for use with the EDM model I finally decide on:http://www.fmdxantenna.com/proddetail.php?prod=simtransWould this antenna be worth the investment? And has anyone used this particular antenna with their EDM? How well did it work or not work? Thanks for any information anyone using an EDM can give me on this.
dstevens Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 As I remember, EDM does not sell antennas. They do ship a test antenna with their units. I know there a quite a few people that are just using the test antenna with their EDM's. It looks like the antenna you posted would also work.
Surfing4Dough Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 It comes with a wire antenna that is more than adequate for our purposes. EDM themselves have said that it can be used for this. They do also sell a rubber ducky antenna that can be added if desired. $15-$20 from what I recall. Similar to what is shown below. Not needed from my experience.
Guest guest Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I just prefer an antenna over a slim piece of wire that can either get lost or mistakenly used for something else. That way I know it's for the transmitter and won't get put somewhere or used for something. I tend to use loose wire like that for other things.Hmm, wonder if the telescoping antenna that came with my MBB Eclipse 4000 would be suitable for the EDM?Although I may just stick with the antenna I linked to in my OP. It's basically just a couple $ more and may be better suited.
jeffl Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I have this one mounted on the side of the house. It sounds as good or better then most stations in the area.http://www.fmdxantenna.com/proddetail.php?prod=14tun#.Tva1d_ImdQI

You can't even mount a TV antenna on the outside of your house here, it would have to be inside the attic. So I was looking at the one in my OP because that one could be mounted outside and hidden much easier than that one could. We don't own the house (reverse mortgage and belonged to my late mother in law - long story), but we're trying to acquire it. If we can't, our next move will be to an area with NO HOA and no idiotic restrictions like this. If we can't get the house and have to move, then I'll probably buy that particular model as I like the fact it is tuneable for any frequency used and can be retuned if needed without having to cut or do anything to the antenna that would limit it to just that frequency. But currently will probably buy the one in the link in my OP. Again, mainly due to the HOA restrictions.
Surfing4Dough Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 I would wait and see how the included antennae works and you might realize that you don't need anything else. I am sure that you can figure out a way to put the wire antenna in a zip-lock and package it up with your transmitter so you aren't tempted to steal the wire for another project. I think you probably will have time to still order a different antenna if you find otherwise after testing--most place ship in less than 6 months.

Especially at the most inopportune time.Plus there have been times where I waited and then find out an item I wanted is no longer made or available. So now, if I see an item I want and I have the funds in hand, I buy it and have it. I've lost out too many times by waiting, it's why I pay full price for what I buy, if I get it on sale, fine, if not, that's all well and good too. It's one of the reasons I paid full price for my 4 CTB16PC controllers and did not wait for a sale, only to be disappointed in NOT being able to get them for the sale price. So personally I actually hate sales and just prefer to pay for what I get, even though it is/may be full price. I also hate pre-sales, when I BUY an item I expect that item to be sent immediately after they have received my payment for it, not 3, 4, 6 or more months later. When I buy ANYHTHING I expect my order filled and sent within 3 days of payment unless other arrangements are made or I read and agree to a 1-2 week delay in shipment once my payment has been processed. If my payment has cleared my bank (which usually happens within minutes or not more than 2 days), I expect my order to show up very soon thereafter it shows up as paid. Those presales are one of the problems I have with these on-line vendors that sell Christmas Lights, once I place my order, I want these lights IN MY HANDS as soon as possible, not 6 months later and not just before time for me to start putting up my display. And I sure don't want them coming in October or November, if I ordered them in February, I would expect them in March or early April and NO LATER.I need the items so I can do my sequencing and tests with them BEFORE I put them out, especially since some will be used in October for Halloween and then reused in November through January for the Christmas display.Sorry to go on a bit of rant here, but trying to get things organized for 2012 and am planning on doing some major big $$ purchases of quality LED Lights, EDM Transmitter, Antenna, etc. to improve my display. And I always see these "pre-sale" prices and then see where they say will ship in or before November or when product arrives, if you don't have it in stock to send out immediately once payment has been received and have to wait for some slow boat from China, I tend to have issues with that. Once I pay IN FULL, I expect a timely shipment of my order. And I always PAY IN FULL for anything I buy directly up front.Plus I'd rather just know what the REAL FINAL PRICE is so I can plan how much I'm going to need to spend and get what I order in a very timely manner, not months later. Especially since I'm NOT sure where I may be living several months later from the time I'll be ordering all this stuff, and it is the main reason why I want my stuff DELIVERED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE(within a week or two at most), so I get it in MY HANDS, and it doesn't get lost or someone else get the items, and then I'm out a large passel of money that I have nothing to show for it, and can't prove I didn't get because I ended up having to move waiting on an item(s) I paid in full for and were delivered at the old address and someone else pick the stuff up.

I have my transmitter sitting on top of the file cabinet inside my office, and it can be heard about a block away in all directions. I can't say enough good about the transmitter and the antenna.

If your looking for a good accountant or financial adviser, I am available Thanks cenote, but my wife has 2 Certified Public Accountants in her family that she gets advice from. Although I don't see where their advice has helped us any.:shock:Don't tell her I said that!
