Can you run 12 CCR's about 12 showtime controllers all from one MP3 director? Does the MP3 director have a channel limit?

Can you? Yes.
Is there a limit? No.

Would you want to? Depends.

12 CCR's on 1 MP3 director is going to be pushing the limits. When you run it from a computer you should really consider two (or more) networks.

Now, the caveat is that if all 12 CCR's are assigned the same address (and as a result doing the same thing) then your network traffic will be reduced to just "one" CCR (as seen on the network.)

This would be for a commercial show for the 2012 season. The plan is 12 string mega tree so all 12 would be different addresses.

So has it been done?

Am I looking at possible major issues running that much from the director? Its only a 5 minute sequence

i tried using just one network but the ccrs don't seem to keep up, even with just 2 networks there are spots where i see them hang up and do funny things. if you don't have to much going on it would be possible but if you have to many morphs going on it will get jumpy. my mp3 director had to be parked. to bad cause it sure took the computer out of the equation.

wish list for LOR a mp3 director that can run multiple networks.

whats the second port for on the director?

Decoration?

No, it's just a second RJ45 port. Perhaps it is for future capabilities, but for now, it's just there.

I ran 4 CCRs and 25 Regular controllers with my MP3 Director. This stream shows me why I had problems. I had to minimize Regular Controller stuff when trying to do the CCR stuff. Doing both at the same time made everything bog down. I hope the limitations of the MP3 are the problem... now anyone have any idea why the Show Director can't handle it.

I use both those RJ45 jacks on my DC-MP3 Showtime Director, one of them goes to 4 controllers and the other goes to a controller inside the garage that is controlling some inside items.

Last year in 2010, one port went to 3 controllers on one side of the house, the other port went to the 2 controllers on the opposite of the house. And since my FM Transmitter is also mounted in the MP3 Director box, my transmitter and Director unit were between my controllers.

So both jacks on the DC-MP3 Showtime Director unit are very usable, but it's still just one network.

I have 5 CTB16PC boxes and a 1602w running with the mp3 director in it. Last year all ran with no problems. This year, added 2 CCR's and instantly noticed the "uh oh" moment when the leaping arches lagged, then caught up, then other stuff lagged. Another post on here helped me big time with simply bumping up the network speed when creating the show with the hardware utility. That REALLY helped. there are still just a couple small spots where a lot of morphs are going on where you can see a lag but not much. Next year, I plan to add another 33 channels (6 light poles with stars) and really think I'm going to have to suck it up and go the computer route. I just don't see how with the lag this year, I will be able to add those and not bog it back down. SO, if I were you, I probably wouldn't be real interested to try it. you could, but just have a PC ready to go in case...

I'm a LOR newbie (convert from a different product) and have almost the same question (which I didn't really see the answer).. Has anyone actually done the 12 CCR's with the MP3 director?
I'm putting the parts-list together (and waiting for the big sale, if there is one) for a setup that will use the MP3 director and the wireless RF-V4 to connect to 12 CCRs along with 1 iDMX1000 (to control 3 DMX devices) and 1 CTB16PC (just in case I want some other "features").

Thanks!

From last years experience, that will not work, the IDMX does not have enough horse power for a lot of controllers and either director card has not enough horse power for the CCR's i used 4 CCR's

The director card runs standard at 56K that is too slow for CCR's.

So, I'm now thinking that the best approach is to NOT go with the director an the ELL wireless (which looks to also be limited to 56k), but, instead put the $$ towards multiple USB485B adapters and maybe a newer laptop. Now to search the forum for more info on the best practice for the 12 CCR setup.

So... If I understand this correctly I won't be able to run the 12 CCR's (I'm planning to buy) without problems cuz I'm also using ELL wireless?

Depending on what you were going to have the 12 CCR's doing, then you might run into issues.

To avoid potential problems would it be better to run cat 5 to the controller thats running the CCR's ?

In my opinion, the best solution would be to run two networks for the 12 CCR's. You would then put 6 CCR controllers on each network. (Thus, two cat 5 runs from the 2 USB485's to the controllers.)
