LL1701
So short version... been trolling around these forums off and on for the last few months... decided to try and pull of a mega-tree this year (live in a townhouse, always did basic icicles on the roof, some other lights... the typical "like every other house" look). Found a controller right around Thanksgiving week... had purchased one of those PVC mega-tree kits (10' variety), spent a week at night cutting up PVC and assembling. Last weekend and the previous weekend, spent about 3 hours each Sunday putting everything up... kinda looked weird for a week with just a PVC base and a 10' gas pipe sticking out of the ground... then last week put the lights up (16 strands / 8 cool white / 8 multi C6 60ct. LED). Tree topper is a North Star, with 60 ct. mini-LED's duct-taped on the frame. Couldn't resist not having them "dance", so spent about 2 hours whipping up a 10 minute dancing sequence, hooked up the controller, and well... I now have 3 different sequences that I load and rotate every few days... neighbors have been commenting positively... still shocked I did this all in two weeks... it's simple, but a nice sense of accomplishment... next year, music and a LOT more lights (and channels). Jim Hans
That looks great! From the pictures it doesn't look like you have any guy wires on the tree. You may want to check out some of the threads here about that as you don't want it to become a horizontal mega tree!
imawlkr2
Base design is the exact same as mine. Tree looks nice! With the metal cross base holding the 10' pole I have it is pretty sturdy, but I still use guy wires on mine for precautions. I would recommend the same as Jim above did. It could save you some disappointment/damage later on.
LL1701
Guy wires are on...4 of them... hard to see with the way the picture was taken... but that tree is sturdier than I was expected... I have 2x4's on the bottom to level in, U-bolts on all 4 support pipes, plus the guy wires... we had pretty bad rain up here in the Northeast last night, along with 20-30mph wind gusts... the area where my house sits is a loop, so the winds tend to do the "windtunnel" thing in the front of the houses... the LED wreath was tapping the house all night, but the tree stayed put... didn't get much sleep last night, but all in all, happy with how it turned out. Guest guest
The tree is not sideways...just the house.
