LED questions

I first want to start by thanking all of the senior members here on the LOR forums. I started my first venture into LOR world this year with an 8 channel Halloween display and now a 16 channel Christmas display (using a Gen 3 residential controller). I've done virtually all of my own sequencing with much help from reading this forum. Most information is here if you search for it.

I am already thinking of next years display and want to add two seven channel arches and a 16 channel, single color mega or Weber tree. Does anyone have suggestions on a specific brand/mfg. of LED light strings to use for the arches? Any pros/cons or will any Big Box set of LED lights work? I plan on doing the sleeve method of construction as has been described in several places around here.

Creative Displays... I'm a fan of 5mm concave for arches myself.

My display is all LEDs. Make sure you get full wave LEDS. These will fade better than half wave. I hate to sound like a cheerleader for Paul at CDI, but I have bought lights from different vendors and I have very little problems with his LEDs. It is a good product with great customer service and better yet, an upcoming pre-order sale.

I have slowly converted to mostly all LEDS the only place where I still use incandescents is on my mega tree (Phillips energy efficient minis) and regular white minis on my arches.

If you in need of LEDS yes the answer is CDI - paul is very helpful and the best I have seen in customer service.

On another note.... if you are already planning for upgrades in next year's show now is the time to do it.... best thing to do while all of your display is still out to see where you want to add

I have 600 C6 bulbs per arch ... 6 sections of 100ct each.

OF course I have to offer another endorsement for CDI and Paul as a source for LEDs, especially during his sale which will be coming up soon for next year:

CDI is getting the Holiday Creations brand of LEDs which are (in my opinion) the only ones to use. I have tinkered with quite a few different brands and have found them to have the best "overall" quality, consistency, color and brightness, and longevity of any that I have toyed with.

There are other vendors and suppliers of the Holiday Creations brand as well if you only need a couple of strings at a time, but Paul's sale is the one to grab onto and go with if you want to make any sizeable purchase.

I use C6 for my mega tree and the house windows, C7 for the roof outline, m6 minis for my arch, and G12 for my mini trees.

I suppose I do need to take a look at the 5mm ones again as I hope to build some more arches in the next year if the work situation turns around anyway.
