Carl S
Ok I know most of our displays are up and running but who is already thinking of new or different projects for next year? I have a couple of ideas and my wife keeps giving me more
De Trommelslager
Next year will be my first year doing a sequenced display. So the ideas and planning are on going, but where it ends up will be determined ultimately by funding and time. The money will run out long before the ideas do!!Oh, and I am going to be doing this all under the radar. The display will be a surprise for my wife this next Christmas. What ever goes out will have to be deployed in a day's time in order to pull it off. The idea is she'll leave for work from a bare home, and come back to a dancing display. We'll see how it goes; a lofty goal it is!!
-klb-
I have been thinking about next year for several months already. Both what to build, and what to do towards making it all easier.

You will be dismayed at how much longer things take than you think they will. Good luck. Be sure to share her reaction with us.I'm with Kevin. I'm all about making it easier from year to year. Custom extension cords are the single biggest innovation I've come across in the making-it-easier category.
CKSedg
Yup, I have spent two years now modifying things to be easier to put up. They have to go together quickly and easily, or I am going to change them to do so. I agree with George that custom cords are essential for this; but that means I have to quit moving things around the yard from year to year! Ken Benedict
Yes, I have been building things for the past 3 months that are unique and hopefully entertaining for 2012. Also streamlining the install process for the existing displays.Last year and this year: Next year more commercial displays like http://www.stageninedesign.com/theatre-of-lights/

Don't want to risk quality for quantity. I have one (the first) controller due here this week and will be able to play with it and see how all of this comes together. The fun begins! And I will certainly share the reaction when the time arrives. It's just over 11 1/2 months away! Lots to do between now and then.
WilliamS
NEXT YEAR! Im already amped up. The 32 channels for year one is up and running great, attracting attention and lots of questions from the neighbors. Next year now that Im getting more comfortable it will be 64 channels and hopefully if the Tax man is nice 4 CCRS! I say hopefully because Im already programming for them! I get caught at the last minute every year, maybe this will look good over here and this over there, well I think I have my yard finally looking the way I want it, it looks full so I won't be moving anything next year just adding more elements, and this would include new sequences which we are working on now, George nailed it on the head when he said custom cords are the only way to go. Arnoldc
I am already planning for next year. I have the basic layout, the channel count figured out. Got to get it all figured out before the sales hit so I know what I NEED to buy.Plus, I am shocked that the stores around here are out of clear lights! I planned on using those for my arches instead of LEDs. Keeping fingers crossed that I can find some at a good price!

Arnoldc
Of course, after car shopping.. still waiting on a price... I feel like just doing this next year and calling it even..... Attached files
Mwhite7097
I make a deal with the wife. The display for this year can't be changed or added to after Nov 1st. I tended to tweak sequences or move things in the yard. So on Nov. 2nd, I am already thinking of next year. This year was a lot of work going from 48 to 128 channels so I probably will only make minor changes next year. Would love to add icicle strings for the house jumping effect. Frybread
Next year.:shock:I am still trying to stop fiddling with this year. This weekend I go from 16 to 32 channels.. which meant that I had to do a lot of re-sequencing... Sleep.. who needs sleep.However. I am looking at either a Mega tree or 6 new 8 channel arches for next year.Let see that is at least 2 more controllers and  lights....Paul do you offer a friends and family discount
Box on Rails
This is my first year and the display is running awesome for only having 16 channels. 16 is not enough. 32 next year for sure Maybe even 48. As my show plays, I see next years display in my head. More animation, more music, More lights less of the stupid streetlight across the street. And i think i got my next store neighbor to let me use her house (and electricity) for next years show. I live in a very small community where the houses are only about 10 feet apart. easy to run Cat5 between them. I am so stoked that this LOR stuff is so easy. Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of work but once the work is over just set up a lawn chair, grab a Mocha and enjoy the easy part.
