jgp01
Just wanted to say Hi and thanks for the wealth of information provided here! Also figured I'd share:I found these strobes at Party City:http://www.partycity.com/product/strobe+light+bulb+5+watt.do?sortby=ourPicks&size=all&from=Search&navSet=strobethey're on sale now for $4.49 each. Plus there are coupons out there for more off...They're medium base, so you'd have to make-up your own string from temporary lighting sockets (home depot). Also they're a bit slow (1 flash approx every 2 sec.)They're not LED and they're bright as hell. I used then as is, without modification for lulls or drama for an intro...Don't know how they'll hold up...but for that price I couldn't resist.Let me know if anyone else tries / or has tried them... Not really but can understand how some might think so.Over the years many of us have found vendors that understand the type of outdoor displays that we do, stock products that are suitable, and offer outstanding customer service.Paul at CDI is one of those vendors, and we know that what we buy from CDI will work outside in many different climates. This hobby is expensive enough as is without gambling on the unknown. The strobes you posted look very similar to the ones sold by another vendor. Many of us experienced 30 - 40 % annual failure rates with these when used outside, even after drilling weep holes into them to let the condensation have a way to drip out. This was getting expensive, I was loosing 20 to 25 strobes per year.Of course this was more pronounced in some parts of the country then in others due to differences in climate. When CDI started carrying strobes in 2009, I bought 50 or so, still using them with zero failures. So, when it comes to strobes, some of us are very picky. jgp01
Sweet,Thanks for the info! Some of us who are new around here, don't completely know all the ins and outs. Perhaps we need an extra strobe or 2, or a LED string, or DMX moving yoke etc.etc. last minute! It's great to know a place or 2 as a backup where I can get something fairly quickly at a good price! So again, thank you!Joe(I know what you mean about, reliability and pressure of having things work and cost...I worked on some lighting projects for some Casino's in Vegas, a couple different projects for Universal studios and a bunch of Broadway stuff.....) plasmadrive
don't those seem a bit slow?
jgp01
Yep,Like I said cheap strobes, good in a pinch...Fine for a slow intro like Fantasmic etc. Probably wouldn't be good for a rolling / flowing strobe effect. You could always modify them, but then why not buy the ones from CDI....If you don't have strobes and you want to throw a few here and there....it's not a bad deal...... plasmadrive
I just followed that link.. I might just have to look a bit closer.. Doesn't look so bad now. This year I bought a bunch of 5mm LEDs from Target of all places. 7.49 for 60 count strings. They only had cool white and blue. Got them on line with free shipping. They seem to actually be of pretty good quality. But then I have only Phillips strings from previous years to compare with. Thanks for the tip.. I will give him a try.Craig
bwhitehead
That is a good deal. Thanks and welcome. But most of the stores only sale the normal size sockets not the c9 that we all use.
plasmadrive
I used the 5mm white LEDs for my towers.. or Firesticks I think some people call them. I also used them for my Mega tree and they worked fabulously! I used the blue to wrap my trees with.. the blue is so awesome..I did get some C7 warm wight for my arches at Sam's club. 150ct was $19.95 I think. They worked out great as well. Now I have about 50k mini incan that I haven't even opened yet that I have been grabbing for years! LOL! I am going to run out of things to do with them!
